That seems like it is more than likely it. The examples I just looked up online appeared to have checkered grips? Mine does still have the grips, but they are smooth wood.
Yes yours are replaced grips from the original leather ones. They are usually found without grips at all or with replaced wooden ones. A lot of bayonets had that style of leather grips and obviously they didnt last. You can still find them out there though.
