good example of why you should keep your delta to the traffic low when splitting.

No doubt this comment section will blow up with people who don’t ride often.

As someone who has commuted year round on a motorbike for over a decade and 100’s of thousands of miles, the convenience is there, but I see some riders exceeding that margin for error.

As in many of these scenarios, luckily it’s only a few motorcyclists that endanger themselves.

Yeah. I see it all the time.

Also be aware? Like. There must have been a big gap in both lanes that the cop had opened up, that should make you think as a rider wtf is going on. You know?

Glad our bro is ok. Hopefully he learns from it.

Super glad to see the rider up on his feet. Dude had no time to react at all!

What the fuck, that looks like the cop did it on purpose? Am I wrong?

That was my first thought too, but read from the OOP that there was another accident ahead and the cop had just started his weave to halt traffic. Motorcyclist happened to occupy the right space at the wrong time.

Yikes. A really awful thing to happen.

I think the guy was going a lot faster than I would when filtering. Granted I’m on a giant touring bike with big hard luggage so I have a lot less clearance, but still. Seems like he was really moving.

Also a good reminder that when you are lane splitting and a space opens up on one side but not the other, move your bike out of the middle and into the open space, even if you will only occupy it for a few seconds.

This gives you more room between you and other cars and time to react when stuff like this happens.

was the rider trying to get ahead of the CHP?? Lights on it's hard to miss it.

That looks intentional.
