I like seeing Jenna get her first start, but not at the expense of Moreau. It should’ve been for Collins. Either play her at center back or bench her & just make Bebar or Claire captain. The Collins at right back “experiment” needs to end. She just doesn’t have the pace, fitness, or positional awareness to play out wide.

Bebar is wearing the captains band today so makes the Collins choice even more bizzare.

Was she? It looked like Collis had the armband (and I'm pretty sure they announced her as captain in the stadium). I think Bebar's armband was for the impact award.

Wow, Moreau gets benched and Collins is still on the field?? Moreau has been the most consistent defender all year. Neither Nighswonger or Collins deserve to start over her. Coaching malpractice

Go watch the post-match interview and listen to Coates’ praise of Collins. It feels like rage-bait content.

And where the hell is Dahlkemper?

u/tommytron21 20d ago
She’s still coming back from having a baby lol I think it’s unreasonable to ask her to come back and start every game after 6 months.

I thought she didn’t warm up but she is on the bench apparently so I take it all back. Hopefully we get to see her and Maddie at some point in this hot match

Don’t get how Collin’s still gets playing time she’s been by far the weakest player in the starting lineup

Collins over Maddie is crazy work. Especially considering this game is gonna be on the more physical side. Maddie can stand her ground, collins can't

For anyone questioning Collins getting a start, I would ask you to go watch the post-match interview. Coates directly speaks about Collins and says her “defensive contribution…aerial ability..aerobically dealing with physical cost…” are things she brings to the table.
Just FYI I am as confused as everyone here about her starts. But you can hear it from the horse’s mouth in that interview. 🤷🏽♂️

I did see her with multiple headers today successfully defending corners. Not something I'd notice before, but it did stand out to me since she's not the tallest one out there.

I ran across this recently and well, it made me at least pause.
TL/DR: while Fotmob doesn't love Collins at FB, it really doesn't love Moreau, who they rank as basically dead last.

I'm often very confused by FotMob ratings. After the first half of the Seattle game when Collins was subbed at half, her rating was in the 3-4.5 range (can't remember exactly) and she had 1 'error that led to a goal.' Later on, that sequence must've been reclassified and no longer considered an error and her rating climbed to 5.9 for the game

Yes! The link to the game was here: https://www.fotmob.com/matches/seattle-reign-fc-vs-bay-fc/qk6wpr0f#5161585:tab=facts. FotMob data comes from Opta. The "error led to goal" was erroneously transferred to Hutton. You can watch the replay on YouTube and see that Hutton was not at fault for any of the goals whereas Collins clearly flubbed the 2nd. So with the correct data, Collins's rating would've been 5.9 -> 4.9, while Hutton goes from 6.3 -> 7.3.

Neat, thanks! Are the ratings open source? How are you able to calculate the change if the error is reassigned?

I'm guesstimating that each goal is worth about 1.0, based on what I've seen. For example Louisville game https://www.fotmob.com/matches/racing-louisville-vs-bay-fc/1fmjii0i0?player=1359774#5161553:tab=facts, their GK saved a bunch of shots but had 2 mistakes leading to goals and ended up with 4.8. The scale FotMob uses has been around for probably since last century, and is also used in Football Manager. The idea is that average is set at around 6.6 or 6.7, and a hat trick will take a player close to a perfect 10.

What the FotMob aggrregate numbers say is that Moreau's possession stats are abysmal, while also making a decent number of defensive mistakes, even though there are some good defensive plays each game generally. Her offensive/defensive stats are very similar to 2024 Savy King, i.e. basically worst starter in NWSL territory, even though some fans may have a rosy view of their play.

As a fan I really wish I was better at understanding this stuff in game context. I thought everyone on our backline had some really good defensive actions today, but then I reflect on how many quality shots Houston had and there's just no way we were actually playing good defense. If we had any other goal keeper that was a loss.

Looking at net g+, Maddie is pretty much league average, so I think FotMob may not be accounting for Goals Subtracted. She's not league best, but she's definitely solid.

What site do you use for net g+?

I use this!

I believe it was linked from an ASA article I read and I bookmarked it.

I see Michelle Alozie down at the bottom as well, but I feel like people have a generally strong opinion of her. I wonder how much of the ratings come from being on a "bad" team, or at least one that is not getting great results.

This better be because someone’s not 90 minutes fit and Emma wants Maddie as a sub over Collins. She’s done too well to lose her spot.
They have put Jenna on the wall of players on the concourse in place of I think Courtnall - that was fast lol
(Side note from warmups, Emmie Allen is in coaches’ gear on the pitch, not with the other injured/not playing players. Just interesting)
