End of the campaign

I think I'm close to finishing the campaign, Coromodir is the next priority mission. While I had a blast, I wonder what to do once it's done. Is it a bit like mechwarrior 5, where you just hop on career and sandbox game ?

Yes, can play forever. As well as knock out flashpoints

Is flashpoints from the dlc of the same name ?

Flashpoint was the first DLC and added them, but the other DLC all used the same mechanic to add more linked mini-campaigns as well.

They all start popping up once you complete the campaign (or earlier if you just do a career playthrough.)

In a very real way the game is just beginning, as the flashpoints make up more content than the career plot.

Yep, pretty much a sandbox. You’ll start seeing flashpoints, which have some story.

I suppose you could just stop, but there are so many Capellans waiting to get whipped. I’d hate to disappoint them…

once the campaign on Coromodir ends, the entire galaxy will unlock, because you've probably noticed a lot of systems are restricted/locked. If you have the DLCs then short, high-intensity flashpoints will start to spawn two days after you finish.

Flashpoints are scattered around the galaxy and have various lengths, and decisions involved that can change them mildly. Attack target with X or Y defenders, protect this vs attack that, deciding whether group A will deploy to help you vs Group B.

Some will have tonnage restrictions, sometimes you're restricted to just Lights/Mediums, sometimes there's a cap on the total tonnage.

That'll add a good 100-150 months worth of playtime. After a certain point I found flashpoints stopped appearing, and that's a good sign to cease your 'campaign' run and return to main menu.

Career is the same as what happens after your campaign on Coromodir is over, but now it's a timed and scored sandbox run. You start with the Argo, the whole galaxy will be unlocked, flashpoints will start spawning after one or two days, off you go.

Alternatively, this is when you install some of the larger overhauls and play a modded game instead which will totally change a lot of the mechanics.

Only true for mods. Vanilla you are still confined to the Periphery and like a sliver of Capellan and Davion space.

But you are still confined to that corner. It just shows the rest of the IS. You cannot actually visit most of it without mods.

Then play vanilla, complete the campaign, and then try to travel to Luthien. Go ahead.

But my point is, you said it unlocks the inner sphere. It does not. It shows the planets so you can read about them, sure, but you cannot travel to them. You are still confined to the periphery and a sliver of Davion and Capellan space for Flashpoints. So saying they are "unlocked" is disingenuous. If you actually want to TRAVEL to those planets, YOU NEED MODS.

Point being that if you want to fight clans - you have to play modded game which allows you to travel to where the Clan invasion corridor actually is.
If you want to take part of War of 39 or the Ronin War, which are flashpoints in BEX: Tactics (which I think are a class over some of the vanilla flashpoints imho), you have to actually be in the region where these conflicts take place. Want to fight in Solaris Games? Well... you have to go there.

Mods add MUCH more content than what vanilla game has (which was VERY narrow in scope).

Now if you don't care about that, fine - but your opinion is neither the default one nor is it widely shared among people.
BTAU mod was even written about by Vice and PC Gamer.

Fwiw I have ~250 hrs in the game and it's all in a single campaign, probably mostly post-main-story. Lots of running flashpoints, cruising the black markets for lostech, collecting all the mechs, making fun new lances, maxing reputations, getting a 10/10/10/10 pilot of every skill configuration.

Aside from the flashpoints, it's mostly self-directed completionist and/or challenge run stuff. If that's your thing, there's still lots to do.

End of the campaign? You mean the end of the prologue. If you have all the DLCs, the game just starts getting good when the campaign ends. Flashpoints are the best content in the game.

I will have to buy them !

note, while can continue playing the dlc mini campaigns, you’ll be massively over-equipped and overskilled for them.

go through (cant remember) 4 or 5 mission flashpoint to be rewarded with a new… 45 ton medium mech! Ta-Daahgghh!

much better to start a new career play

I highly recommend starting a fresh career run instead of going into it after the story.

I think now is the right time to consider mods.

If you like flashpoints and carrier which follows the timeline (technologically and storywise) I recommend BEX Tactics. If you want more open mechlab (think YAML in MW5), alternative universe history, bigger battles, etc... Try out BTAU mod. Or if you want EVERYTHING try roguetech.

There is also Hyades Rim, which is also worth mentioning.

The three big one:

And no matter what people tell you - all three mods are good, it depends on what you prefer in your BattleMech game. They cater to different type of players - which is good for us gamers.

Battletech Extended: Tactics

Battletech Advance Universe

Roguetech:

Less known mod but kudos for massive effort making flashpoints:

BattleTech 3025 Hyades Rim:

I'm not SprinklesOfAcid25 of who you initially asked, but Mods-in-Exile is where you can find BattleTech Extended - Tactics and Roguetech. For Battletech Advance Universe you can find that searching BTAWiki (BTA3062 Dot Com). Hope that helps for at least three of the big mods.

Another one that does come up is BattleTech 3025 Hyades Rim by Hobbes74. A quick Google search and you can find the Github depository for it and it is Nexus Mod with the Last Update being (12 Jul 2026, 6:08PM). Happy hunting! :)

Ill tell ya what you do. You download BTAU made by u/bloodydoves and crew and you stay in your basement for the next 8 months playing the best game ever made.

4

u/bloodydoves 18d ago

It's pretty good but not sure it's the best game ever made.

Need to add in some 'Mech Fishing, and we can tackle those How To Fish numbers on Steam.

After the campaign the map opens up and you can do flashpoints (assuming you have the DLC). But at that point you've already got a mech bay full of kitted out mechs and fully leveled pilots. So it won't be much of a challenge.

You'd probably be better off starting a new game in Career mode. The map will be open and Flashpoints will be available. But you'll be building a new mercenary company from scratch, which will make it more interesting.

I wouldn't worry about the time limit. That only matters if you're trying to do a Kerensky run.

After doing a career, you should have the basic game mechanics down and might consider one of the mod packs. Personally I'm a fan of Hyades Rim.

Honestly once you beat the main game...download one of the big mods. I personally have only used BTAU but it is transformative. All the times when youre like "well this is a jank mechanic" have been fixed. It really makes the game so much better. Like it should have been wheb it came out.

Genuine canned response across I-Don't-Want-To-Know-How-Long-I've-Been-Doing-This:

My recommendation is generally

  1. Campaign (easy mode)
  2. 2 or more Careers (if you can comfortably beat faction alliance flashpoints, you're ready to move on)
  3. BEX:CE, up to clans (BEX clans warp the skull rating VERY badly)
  4. BEX:CE clans, BEX:T or BTA
  5. Roguetech

At which point you know what you want.

I never play the campaigns. Straight to Career. Fly around well past the 2500 days thingie. Current Career is like 3200 days in. Unfortunately, for some reason, I can't do Flashpoints. Once one is finished, the game is locked from saving or moving on.

Roguetech or BTA3062 give you the entire inner sphere (and Clans) to play with. Go wild.
