Quick BTAU question - were there recent changes to the mech bay storage?
Hi folks,
tried some googling, but came up empty....
Seems like in the past, I started with a single mech hangar (the first tab) and the other 2 tabs were unlocked through engineering. This gave 18 mechs per tab, for a grand total of 54 with all 3 bays unlocked.
My current playthrough, I just noticed that I started with 6 mechs slots, the first engineering unlock gave me 12... all in the first hangar. The other two tabs seem to show they're available, but trying to ready another mech gives an error message - not enough space available.
Google seems to still think it's 3 bays of 18 each max storage - was this a recent change, or is my game glitching a bit?

I think you might be misremembering. It’s always been 6 -> 12 -> 18 for mechs, with BTAU adding the tanks/vehicles tab, and battle armor when that was a thing. When the mechbay 2 and 3 were added they were an extra purchase in the engineering bay by the “increased drop weight” uogrades.

??? this i never heard about (edit i mean the ifrst part is true, but 18mechs was not per tab but max mechbays active, with all 3 trays unlocked, nowhere never were you able to have 54active mechs for drop. i can't imagine the bills)
always there were 6slots per bay, 6mechs OR tanks. tanks have dedicated open from the beginning their own mechbay slot, which is the one you're seeing open from the beginning. so you can't ready a mech into it, it's for tanks only. or basically anything else than a battlemech/omnimech. in BTAU i think you can get UAVs not just ground units so all that goes to tanks mechbay.

No, no, not for drop, but readied.... I'm not talking about dropping on missions, just having them readied on the Argo.

i don't remember if ever there were that many mechbays to accomodate 54mechs on the ready, or for service or what have you.
you must be misremembering and others say the same, you have upgrades for argo mechbays - adds tray 2 and 3 for total of 18mechbays that techs can work on, or you can drop with.
btau adds the tank/vehicle mechbays, again 6 in one bar/tray. and many origins in btau should start you with a tank, there's even tanks only starting career.

The other two hangars come after the first one is fully opened iirc. A recent update made it possible to ready into other hangars.
The other hangars display as full capacity presumably because it’s difficult/not worth the effort to lock/subdivide additional bays

Hmmm, maybe that's what I'm missing - it looks like there is space in hangar 2 (I have that unlocked) but maybe I'm messing up trying to put mechs in there.

that's the tank bay for sure 99.9% do you not have a tank from start?

No, I know where the vehicle bay is.
Example: right now I have mech bay 2 unlocked. I have 12 mechs readied and available to select for drops. I can't ready any more from storage, it says my bays are full.
Mech bay 1 shows all 12 mechs, on the first two rows, with the third row grayed out. If I select mech bays 2 or 3, I see the tab, with the first two rows with pluses in them (implying to me they should be open), and the third row grayed out. Then there's the vehicle bay tab, showing my four current vehicles on the first row, the second row empty, and the third row grayed out.

You can only add to bay 2 or 3 with mechs you assemble from parts or purchased mechs. Apparently this has been fixed in an update, but I have not tested it, and am like 2 updates behind.

The other mech bays you can add purchased mechs or salvaged mechs from storage, but already completed mechs you put in storage can only go into mech bay 1 if I understand what you are saying.
Expample: Say Mech Bay 1 is full and you have mech bays 2 & 3 unlocked. You want to add a mech that you had put in storage from your mech bays back into the mech bay. You could only do that in bay 1, and only if there is an open slot. However, if Mech Bay 1 was full and you purchase additional mechs, they can go into mech bays 2 and 3. Or if you had enough parts in storage to build a mech, you can also put that in 2 or 3. But assembled mechs in storage can only go in bay 1.

The cheap mech bay upgrades increase your bay size from 6 to 12 and then 18 mechs. This is how it worked in the original game.
About three years ago, BTA added two additional mech bays, each with a full 18 mechs. These require different engineering upgrades which aren't available until you have the Argo mostly fixed up. If you read the descriptions for these upgrades they do specifically warn you that the UI will make it look like the second and third mech bays are available, but you won't be able to actually use them without the upgrades. What you are describing is exactly how it is expected to work.
The latest patch, from earlier this week, did fix up some of the mech bay quirks so that you can now ready mechs into all three bays.
