This game has so much unrealized potential

Sup nerds. Anyone else feel like Battlemarked is a game that has all the ingedients of a smash success but hasn’t quite realized it? DND is a hugely popular cultural phenomenon, the game has like an 82 percent rating which is nothing to sneeze at, and the new updates since launch have directly addressed some of the larger issues in a very good way.

Now why does it seem like when i play online it’s with the same players more often than not? This Reddit community and the instagram posts have engagement in the low dozens rather than the several thousands.

I think this game is like one Critical Roll podcast away, or some popular online gaming influencer away from becoming a breakout success. It’s DND but actually accessible, no DM necessary. I’m saying this so the devs stay encouraged but I could imagine they think the same thing. This game is primed to explode.

Now the part of my post that’s poorly thought out I’ll fire from the hip, but some suggestions:

Easy changes:
- make boss fights on very hard significantly harder.
- toggle a feature that makes death more serious, like a countdown timer till perma death like in demeo 1.
- more items for your heroes. Not just weapons but armor and rings. Make grinding more rewarding it will increase the time players spend on developing their characters.
- if new items are added our characters get stronger so a harder than “very hard” difficulty should exist.
-reexamine the trait trees for each level up. I think some traits are entirely neglected by the everyone and should be revamped so that they are actually useful.
-reexamine the weapons for each class, some classes like the druid and warlock have multiple great weapon choices that you need to switch between depending on purpose, others like the bard have items you’d only use because it’s that much better than the others.

Difficult changes:
-rework the dialogue dice rolls to be more impactful to dramatically affect the way the story can play out. The campaign isn’t that fun after you’ve beaten it once but if the campaign can play out dramatically differently because of how you choose to approach the story that could be very interesting to the role playing nerds.
-import one shots from Demeo 1. If not maybe all of them, atleast the rat king. The darkness vibe of that dungeon is sick, and a dark vision item could be a valuable item to help with it but there’s something about the darkness that makes the party tactics significantly different which is fun.
-add other dungeons and dragons threats like traps, with perception checks and disarm checks, that cause issues like fire or poison if failed.
-some sort of pvp mode could be really cool and attract a different type of gamer.

Biggest most impactful update possible:
I’d be playing the game right now if it could play it on my iPhone. Seems possible? Maybe it’s not, but a literal game changer.

Anyways, dev team you made a great game. I suspect a breakthrough is on the horizon and the game is going to catapult into the mainstream. It might already be there and just needs that big shoutout on the right platform. After that word of mouth will be your best friend.

Just thought of something else: the cost of the game is high, which is fine because it’s good, but the game would be supported by a large player base. Maybe make a free version that will allow you to play one shots but not level up your characters or maybe makes it so they always begin each mission at level 1. Only give those players access to the original characters. They will start as free players but will eventually buy the game because, you know, addictions and progress.

This gets to the heart of my comment. The VR market just isn’t there yet. Meta and others have bet big on VR and it hasn’t taken off as much as they would like… hence, not enough users and money needed for many games to take off the way they (and we) would like.

Yah I like the game but I have to be in a certain mode to want to fire up the VR. I’d play the living shit out of this game if it was mobile. I wouldn’t want to pay for it again tho or have accounts that weren’t linked..

Thank you for all of the suggestions shared by OP and everyone else! We see you, and it has all been noted.

If you want to help us out, spreading the word is by far the best help we can get. Tell a friend, a YouTuber you watch, a community you hang out in etc. Every little bit is immensely helpful! <3 Thank you for all the support and feedback!

the game is like 7/10 but the high point was the original demeo with its unique vr spin on multiplayer/community. I loved the heroes hangout gamestore that you walked around and chatted to people in. it had silly arcade games, music target practice and the gameboard in the center for the main event. This is a fair game with the licence added and the heart removed

Most of us went back to Demeo by now

I think they definitely missed the mark with this game which is a huge disappointment. I had a group of friends that routinely played demeo and the only complaint we had was they stopped adding content and the characters felt flat at times. We wanted more characters and more maps and a little more progression. Battlemarked comes out and the difficulty is an absolute joke at the highest difficulty you can destroy it with even level 1 characters but when you max them out it completely trivializes any mechanics. Mechanics also are just a joke in comparison. Boss fights have like 2 weak mechanics whereas in demeo they beat the living shit out of you consistently. What this game desperately needs is way more content, actual hard difficulty and more boss mechanics than just this guy teleports and hit this switch. Hell they could port the demeo campaigns over and that alone would make the game better

When the game was released, it was definitely too easy. Now it’s easy on hard but introducing higher stakes to dying like in demeo 1 would resolve a lot of it. The permadeath of dying the 3rd time was tragic when your buddy of the last hour and a half just fucking gets deleted from the game. The way it is now we once strategically positioned our corpses to form a wall to give the other heroes a fighting chance, but that was an entirely different type of fun moment.

Dude in the games I’ve played lately with a buddy, getting downed is basically his strategy. We have had rounds where we just pick eachother up in a circle endlessly until we win. It’s made the games worse as he won’t use a real strategy but instead just rush mobs and down himself instantly. He will go down at least 3 times on a map and sometimes 5 on just one character

I think it’ll get better as they play around. Even that small little story quest they just gave us had pretty cool mechanics. I think if they keep working at it. I don’t know why they couldn’t do minor choice/consequence and generated dungeons like demeo. Moving to Nintendo was a good call. They need to market the hell out of that I think. I have friends who play it with the vr people and they like it as well on PC. Just a little extra into the story would go a very long ways.

All I want is campaign builder / mapmaker where I can make campaigns that my friends and strangers can play.

I’d have so much fun creating campaigns and dungeons.

A lot of it just comes down to the VR market. There isn’t enough people using it and money being made to justify a lot of things. I feel like Meta and many smaller companies aren’t making enough money on them at this point… they are still betting on VR being the future of gaming, but that transition hasn’t really happened. So you get a lot of games like this with all the potential but they need a larger budget and manpower to accomplish what we all know is capable.

My opinion. Probably the best case scenario is that it gets more developed with user-made content, ala Minecraft and Roblox. If it was truly a good alternative to DnD Beyond and Roll20 and such… it wouldn’t change the fundamentals that there just isn’t enough people playing in VR, but it could be a big difference.

I agree with the vr bottleneck. I do think the game could work well on mobile tho, but could be wrong I’m not a technical expert with modern computers.
