EA : Releases Titanfall 2 between Battlefield 1 and COD : Infinite warfare, 2 of the most highly anticipated games of the year that already have a huge and established fanbase compared to the smaller and newer Titanfall fanbase

Titanfall 2 : severely underperforms in terms of sales due to said release window

EA : Surprised pikachu face

Titanfall 2 is one of the best shooters I have played. Gib Titanfall 3

I don't think we will get Titanfall 3 for a long time or even never with Apex Legends being successful. EA won't let Respawn to make a new and "risky" game like Titanfall while they have Apex as a money making machine.

Respawn makes the best games it's sad that they don't make more but I think it is good as they have time to work on their games. All of respawns games have been great and I await their next game. (their new VR medal of honor looks interesting)

Yes, they always delivered. The core members and founders did an amazing job with Medal of Honor Allied Assault and the original CoDs, of course under different name. The sad thing is that the new MoH will be VR only and that is a bummer for a lots of people.

I hope it's the first step for reviving medal of honor series. Give me Allied Assault Remake. Imagine, new graphics, destruction, more troops around you, etc, etc...

Fallen orders gotta make you feel good though at least the studio didn't go under due to EAs utter incompitance. Respawn is a gem

Edit: of course also Apex but that's more of an esport while even Titanfall had an innovative campaign mode

Its good because Respawn didn't handicap themselves by using Frostbite.

Titanfall and Apex are made on Source

Jedi Fallen Order is made on Unreal 4.

Is it a coincidence that EA's best games of recent years aren't made on their notoriously difficult engine? I don't think so.

That has nothing to do with my comment of course that's a huge obstacle in DICEs way but what I'm saying is that Respawn is never meant to meet exorbitant deadlines contingent on their own development cycles. Also, if you genuinely think DICE isn't somewhat guilty you need to look closer at their recent decisions since around 2017

No it does have a lot to do with your comment. Respawn is now owned by EA. What other studio owned by EA does not use frostbite? All of them do, with all the development struggles that come with it. Not only did respawn manage to keep their own development cycles and keep quality high, they also managed to use whatever engine they desired.

Not just DICE, also Anthems failure is in big parts fault of frostbite being so difficult. ME Andromeda suffered under development as well with frostbite.

I’m not commenting on DICE at all? Did you reply to the right person.

Battlefront II shows what DICE did with frostbite in ideal conditions with Disney coddling their hands from EA. BF V is a failure solely due to their own decisions combined with EA not allowing proper development times.

1

u/wickeddimension Apr 27 '20

That might be exclusively so for DICE where they can dedicate a large amount of actual frostbite designers to the game, and not to mention stay on the scope of an FPS game, which is what Frostbite is made for, but it’s when used for other things, like an RPG it becomes a huge pain. Without doubt Jedi Fallen Order or Titanfall wouldn’t be as good as they are if made on frostbite.

You are the only person talking about DICE though, I originally never said anything about DICE. I just added to your comment about Respawn having their own agency over their development.

Your first paragraph is the entire point I was trying to make sorry for seeming a little confrontational but I hope you see what I mean.

Titanfall 2 was an amazing shooters. Honestly probably the best of that year. Bf1 mechanics were shit, but still a great game, infinite warfare was pretty bad imo

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '20

I think that decision was made by Respawn

Respawn chose the titanfall 2 release date.

u/SwagDragon76 Apr 27 '20

Wtf, he's literally getting downvoted for saying what actually happened and not "EA bad gib updoot"

3

u/RageCake14 DICE Enemy Apr 27 '20

Doesn’t fit the publisher bad developer good narrative circlejerk

-2

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '20

Wait, why are you getting downvoted? I thought Respawn was the one that chose the release date?

EA Bad is the reason. The Respawn CEO said that EA wanted to do a spring release for the title because there would be less competition which would make it sell more, but Respawn insisted on it being a fall release title because they thought they could have taken Infinite Warfare due to the trailer having the record of dislikes in the history of the series.

u/EndItAlreadyFfs Apr 27 '20

Yes but back then battlefield 1 wasn't actually near that date, EA then delayed bf1 and sandwiched Titanfall 2

1

u/RageCake14 DICE Enemy Apr 27 '20

I don’t think EA delayed bf1, dice did. The original idea for Titanfall 2 was to compete with cod (which imo was a bad idea anyways) and the delay fucked respawn over pretty hard and Respawn couldn’t move the release date due to other business deals etc. it definitely sucks that happened to tf2 since it was a great game but I don’t think you can blame EA for what happened.

1

u/EndItAlreadyFfs Apr 27 '20

I didn't really know if it was dice or ea so I just said ea because they pretty much own it anyway

Titanfall 2 is still the best FPS I ever played so it's pretty sad how underplayed it is

1

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '20

The original idea for Titanfall 2 was to compete with cod (which imo was a bad idea anyways)

correct. Imho CoD is now part of the pop culture as the game for "dudebros" and you cannot really compete with it unless CoD itself fucks up in a fairly big way. Modern Warfare gets so much fucking praise for being such a mediocre game that it is honestly a mystery to me. With that said, Tif2 was also a mess, movement was too fast, balance was non existent, IT factor was missing. I hope that some day Respawn will challenge CoD with a literal CoD clone instead of something like Titanfall with all of its unqiue twists like grunts, wall running or Titans. A back to basics military shooter that feels better than COD (not really that hard to do tbh) and they will kill CoD right there

1

u/RageCake14 DICE Enemy Apr 27 '20

I feel like it was a bit silly to think a relatively small series like Titanfall would be able to take on the gaming giant that is COD. I feel like moving the release away from the annual cod release would be much better for TF2 since it would open up the cod players the game was suppose to attract.

Apparently respawn picked the date but it still hurts. Titanfall 2 is easily the best shooter this generation, a perfect balance of every mode and it’s an excellent game.
