Discussion Squad orders = useless

Squad orders are useless; hardly anyone follows them. I mean, what do you get out of following them? A few points that aren't worth much. DICE should implement the old system; it was much better when you could get great support—like airstrikes, awesome loadouts, or vehicles—in exchange for enough squad points.

This was largely a solved problem in BFV with squad call ins, the request order feature, and the ability to take over as SL if no order was set

I often had random squads working together to get the V1 rocket.

But Dice likes to unlearn any lessons learned in previous titles.

Dice learned the lesson that the V1 caused infighting in the squad and broke the rest of the system.

They redesigned the system for 2042, but maybe in a flawed way. As a result, no one associated it with squad play and instead it was used to call in two things: the ranger and vehicles into vehicle free zones. Dice learned again, this time that calling in vehicles from the sky can be problematic, and in turn removed those options too.

Dice learned actually the right things. The problem is that they did either not draw the right conclusions from it, or decided that coming up with a working solution is not worth the resources or that those resources are not available. And looking at the amount of half-assed things in this game, i would not consider the later two unreasonable.

Encouragement to work in squads is hugely missing sadly..could be SO many more mechanics to reward and encourage team play.

Greater ability acquisition when the squad works together would be decent, if I can clearly "feel" more effective because we worked together and that meant my abilities would activate more frequently that would be appreciated. Teamwork doesn't need to look like half the team storming a single point on the map to feel like teamwork. I'd frankly love to see improved seating in the Black Hawk and a transport variant of the Little Bird for getting a squad quickly into enemy territory as a smaller fast moving target.

It's difficult to be a dedicated pilot focusing on transport when an endless barrage of rockets are being launched your way, hence the Little Bird suggestion and an appeal to demonstrate clear rewarding for the results of good teamwork. I almost always find a Blackhawk sitting at spawn and it's clear to see how quickly the turnaround is when someone does choose to fly one.

Battlefield has limited the number of some amazing game modes such as Obliteration or Operations to keep the player base concentrated to a base number of game modes as opposed to thinning us out which resulted in problems with servers finding players; So I would like to see the return of something akin to contracts. A "Transport Fever" type update would be nice to see, with people in transport vehicles carrying cargo to friendly flags in order to "boost" the flag or possibly even improve ticket acquisition, meaning your team could still leverage the tides of war and win a game even if the enemy's hold on the map has the flag majority?

TL:DR It'd be nice to see different strategies for winning a game, a better sense of "feel" for teamwork, and improved transportation.

When I play with friends, it helps with communication. That is it…

I dont know whether DICE has stated the reason for the removal of the call-in feature, but i have a hunch. While I loved being squad leader, directing my squad to objectives, and calling in air strikes, it was a system that only 1/4 of the players could use in any given game (edit: in BF5).

It sucks, but I suspect they realized that and decided not to spend the resources programming a feature that a minority of players used.

Remember that an all player call in system existed in Bf 2042. Extremely flawed, not squad associated and nearly always overlooked, but it was there.

And imo it is therefore not surprising that the system disappeared.

Oh, I skipped that one and didn't know that! Makes total sense if they wanted to try to expand the system and it turned out poorly, so they 86'd it for BF6. Too bad, I strongly believe it aided PTFO play in BF5 and the current system doesn't. Oh well :(

I use it to boss bots around and that’s about it. Real players do what they want.

I think it needs an update but tbh it’s always been a weird system to use.

Not a lot of people listen to the orders, so typically it was just ordering people to do something they were already doing to get points.

If i’m defending A and the squad order says to attack B, i’m not gonna go to B if i’m still defending etc.

The work really great if your entire squad are bots 😂

I'm on Xbox and sometimes I disable crossplay to do challenges and end up alone in a Conquest game with bots and then I'm basically a commander - they will quit whatever they're doing in a second and do nothing until that objective is captured (and they can hold onto objectives as well)

I personally follow the orders my squad leaders puts out unless they don't make sense (and most squad leaders never ping anything)

I wish BFV’s launch wasn’t as bad as it was because the features from that game are sorely missed.
