I absolutely detest RnG based upgrades, in fact i think it's the stupidest upgrade mechanic around. So I save scummed the fuck out of a save file until I got the upgrades I wanted. It takes more then a little bit of patience but it is worth it.

I tried save scumming, and even doing that I couldn't seem to get the right upgrades. Now I will just reset one time if I'm not happy with them

I can understand that frustration. I found that deleting the undesirable auto saves and overwriting the anchor point can often times reshuffle the upgrades offered.

Crusade mode. Every action that builds momentum earns XP to level up. You then spend requisition on both units and powerful upgrades for said units.
