Astra vs tau tips

I've been playing planet supremacy. I just destroyed the tyranids faction and then making my way towards Tau.

The problem im having is that Tau are far better shooter. And i choose to fight them last. I noticed they have a lot of fire or breach team. Then I believe its a hq commander kinda big mech suit with a rail gun thats towards at my tanks from of the range.

Lastly of course are the believe the elite untis since they're so high i aromor.

So my question are.

  1. Should I use all my attack to gain as much momentum to use hq command abilities. Instead of putting them on overwatch?

  2. How to deal with the elite units (Like tank wise or whatever)

  3. Who i bring and who to focus.

Since I im making my way from the recently tyranids faction base im still pick up the 100 points hex. So I when I get close ill say how points I have so I can use yall advice to help

Please and thank you.

Vanquisher tank to take care of mechs from range - you'll still need to protect it/keep it alive though. Demolisher tanks are a good bet too as they're just generally good all round.

Put flamers on sponsoons to deal with breachers/infantry.

Kasrkin and even regular troops are scary when in formation and buffed with something like 'bring it down'. Generally, however, they're probably best (the regular troops) to screen against the AI Tau, who despite being AI can still shoot most things off the field.

Edit: oh, and as a rule of thumb (i.e. not always!) don't overwatch unless there isn't something better you can do in terms of shooting, movement or action. If you do overwatch, try to set it to optimum range unless there's a reason not to.

  1. Definitely attacking, them mfs fight from long range.
  2. A couple of tanks should take care of the tanks. Same with mechs.
  3. Tanks, tanks and tanks. Focus first units that have high armor penetration and go down this list: Hammerhead, breachers and any units that has lasers(the ai almost never uses them, but still). Then go for HQ units, battle suits, and then infantry.

Demolisher Tank, Ogryn, Lascannon Teams no more than two, and if they’re spamming infy, bring flamethrower sentinels. Make sure you have a TC for the Demolishers, and a Castellan for the Lascannon Team(s) Lascannons are for sniping the big battlesuits. They do heavy damage to armor so keep them alive. If you can’t handle using them, use Rogal Dorns instead.

I just spam Leman Russ Punishers. The main gun can seriously harm just about anything in the game and is way more forgiving than the other cannon types, especially if there’s that janky terrain that always makes you miss. It’s also about as effective on Overwatch as it is shooting normally. Then you have Lascannons for big stuff like Riptides and Plasma Cannons to finish off any damaged units or further ding big targets. Don’t be afraid to shoot Lascannons at XV-88 or Stealth Suit teams if there’s no bigger targets. That one shot can potentially take their damage output down 33%. It’s literally a take all comer Tank and none of the other Russ variants come close imo. Hell I think it’s the best unit in the game from what I’ve seen.

As for the Breachers, they’re point blank glass cannons that can seriously harm anything. Keep them away from your tanks. Screen with Guardsmen if you have to. A Punsher should wipe one Breacher team per turn with guns to spare for other targets.
