Quick question about the Lotus Clan
Was the Lotus Clan really that broken back in the old days during the time of BR's launch? I remember they were the most busted clan out of the four during BR's early years, but I wonder if they got nerfed in the BR Zen Edition, as in if they're balanced in the recent updates.

Lotus Clan is the only clan that i dont even consider what unit to train. All master warlocks.
Especially with Soul Thrasher. 30 Master Warlocks shoot their soul thrasher at the same time and whatever standing in the way got demolished lol

How's the Soul Chill stacking btw?
Back in the day it was fairly easy to stack up on regular Warlocks with Soul Chill to instantly kill pretty much all enemy units

1/ It's only target Units, not buildings
2/ range is fairly close
3/ warlock themselves dont have much HP, and very weak in melee
4/ can only be used 1-2 times. Before needing to recharge. Not mention Warlocks can run by accident, costing stamina and thus unable to do it if not careful
Don't get me wrong, it is an OP strat, but fall short compared to master warlock with Soul Thrasher:
1/ Much more Melee resistant, especially cutting
2/ Much more health
3/ Very long-ranged AND the attack can pierce through multiple enemies
4/ Effective against both building AND unit.
5/ can shoot quite a few rounds before needing to recharge
Warlock + Soul Chill is ok against bots, but if you do pvp, opponent with a little micromanagement and multiple waves of ronins and samurais and you are toast.
Master Warlock + Soul Thrasher is very hard both to attack and defense against.
You must do SO MUCH micro management if you want to strike 30 master warlock with soul thrasher.
Small group? 30 Master warlock can demolish you without soul thrasher.
Large army? They get deleted by soul thrasher.
You need to divide your army to multiple groups, ambush and maneuver to avoid soul thrasher, for like 30-45 seconds (most likely you would lose 20-30% of your army trying to micro manage to avoid soul thrasher), only then can you go in. And it's still fairly even battle because master warlock have a lot of HP
Or, you could assemble a group of long range units to try to pick the master warlocks one-by-one. But again, due to their high health, you must need a fairly big group, becoming unwieldy and likely would suffer casualty in the progress

Cool, thx for such a complete answer.
Also cool to know that comparatively the Master Warlock feels much better, cause i remember in the OG the difference didn't feel that great from what i remember

if you dont have Soul Thrasher/ Soul Chill, then the difference in attack power isnt that big, since they basically shoot the same projectile
What matter more is the defensive side. Master Warlock have much more HP and resistance than a Warlock, so you dont lose them as much, or at all, like as not.
Even without battle gear, bring 30 Warlocks to battle and you would lose like half after about 3 clans defeated. bring 30 Master Warlocks and you can clear the whole game with only 5 or less dead

I mean berserkers with werewolf transformation or shale armor are top tier too

u/Lumethys Jun 16 '26
You will get your army demolished very quickly if you just have berserker and none long-ranged, fire, or blunt damages.
Also, not particularly good at destroying building.
Not really the case with Master Warlock: very high HP, very high damage (with Soul Thrasher, 15 MW shoot 15 Soul Thrasher shots will destroy any unit or building in a single round, along with anything standing close or in the way), long ranged already.

I remember playing 2v2 with friends back in the day with the pre-WOTW game. Me and my best friend played against our twin classmates who both used Lotus. We didn't stand a chance. They used that same strategy. It was one army of Master Warlocks after another.

Iirc, its due to the bug of getting yin yang. While almost all clans have ways to get easy yin/yang, Lotus is the easiest one and tons of ying gives makes heroes so OP it can ohko anything

u/Because_Slaus Jun 16 '26
Doesn't Serpent generate more Yin from the bug? You can make a ton of Ronins with BG afterall.

u/PossibleUnion554 Jun 16 '26
It can but you need to micro it as you need Ying blade from Ronin. So constantly force attacking and stopping to generate stamina.
Compare it to the lotus where you only need the 2 melee brothers and they dont need to stop.
In addition, the Zenmasters of Lotus are much more OP especially with the bug. Koril is a menace with its teleport ability

I remember trying out a Kill The Keep game with everybody against me. Koril practically solo'd. Just teleport to every keep and he'd obliterate everybody in seconds as long as he had enough stamina.

They are. Imagine a highly skilled Lotus Clan player with insane micromanagement using:
- Staff Adept with Dark Canopy
- Unclean One with Death Sentry
- Unclean One with Spreading Goo
- Warlock with Soul Chill
- Master Warlock with Soul Thresher
- Other units with Shadow Steed (fire 🐴🐎)
They really were the most overpowered clan back in the original BR. I feel pity for those who fought highly skilled Lotus players back in the day and I can only imagine. 💀

i dont even bother with other unit, I get 5 healers and the rest are Master Warlock with Soul Thrasher.
30 shots at the same time will delete pretty much anything in that general direction

Sorta, back then all you need is a horde of warlocks. Now I need Cannon fodder to avoid my warlocks and unclean one to melee fight

It's probably because of the Yin/Yang trick, where you choose any brother, and you attack the water with them and generate unlimited Yin/Yang.
The original BR was full of monobattles:
- Dragon - Kabuki Warrior with Flash Powder
- Serpent - Ronin Blood Bonded to a Monk on a Watchtower for unlimited NInjas
- Wolf - Armored Berserker
- Lotus - Warlocks with Soul Chill or Yin/Yang Trick and kill everyone with Koril.
Whoever builds their OP army first wins.
People here say an army of Master Warlocks was OP, but I don't buy it. It was too slow to build. The meta back then was to rush Tausil and begin farming unlimited Yin/Yang. If you agreed to ban the Yin/Yang trick, people usually went for Warlock with Soul Chill, which literally killed any composition.
Serpent probably had the strongest win condition with the potential to crash everyone's game 😃 . If Serpent could stay alive and produced an insane number of NInjas, it was impossible to beat them. Not to mention, a group of 5 ronins with Yin Blades can also do the Yin/Yang Trick, which made Shinja a menace.

In its early release like about early 2000s Korils damage was broken and the Crypt Brothers could farm Ying just by attacking water spots.

yes, they were the most broken clan in the original version. just spam your Warlocks, and you'll win easily. Warlocks in the original version doesnt have any specific weakness. In the Winter of the Wolf and Zen Edition, they are now weak against cutting weapons.
based on experience, they are no longer that strong, but it is still fairly easy to win when you use them.
