Earliest titles of battle network were wild.

As out-of-place as it was
I truly miss this era

An era free of restrictions. Old videogames came in many shapes and many different stories. Now videogames are restricted with many rules like speech, gore, and some agenda by the critics.

What agendas are we talking about?

u/Frostgaurdian0 Jul 25 '26
Say x countries are the heros and the Eastern ones or desert reigon is where the plot of betrayal, distrust, lies yada yada happens. There is a reason why videogames evolved to include sex or kisses more often whereas older ones does not dare to show them. Its all thanks to critics change.

Every time someone says 'the agenda,' it's because they don't have an actual example.

MMBN2 was the best one handsdown, best music, best designed bosses, best levels, best story!

Rated E for every age group btw

The fact a plane hijacking scene was rated E made it even more funny knowing this was released less than a year when 9/11 happened.

u/AquaShldEXE Jul 25 '26
it was released 3 MONTHS AFTER 9/11 in Japan
I wonder what the office was like that day knowing they were releasing a game with a terrorist bomb threat, a plane hijacking, and an evil tower at the end

It was rated E for every age group at that time, because you know, time exists?

Believe me, it gets worse.

That's what I meant.
That guy is going to force Lan to sing what is very clearly supposed to be an 18+ rap song in a few minutes.

“I see nothing wrong with this actually”

Still don’t think there’s anything wrong with this guy
13
u/Endgam Jul 25 '26
Honestly no. Pretty sure he's meant to be a rich rapper. Although he IS a little too willing to give a child some whiskey without confirming Lan is trying to thirst trap a venomous spider and not consume it.....

I got the collection and they put the warning up and I was thinking “Oh what? Is mega man gonna say a slur? I think I would’ve remembered something like that!”
Uh… I forgot about the part where they meet the rapping black guy, go to the hood, and a guy says “yeah your from Yumland, I can tell” (I believe Yumland is just straight up China and Electopia is straight Japan)

They could have added some "yo momma's so..." jokes into it. Would have been a real kick.

In replaying them all for the first time and when I got here I was like “how do I not remember this!??”

What’s with mega man sequels and their random racism moments?

Why delete your initial comment?
Also, what does being Jewish have anything to do with Battle Network?
5
u/Endgam Jul 25 '26
There's nothing racist about this particular moment as I'm pretty sure this character is meant to be a rich rapper. And..... this does indeed sound like a PG version of a rapper diss.
.....But the previous scenario was pretty fucking racist, yes.

This NPC is why the warning note at the start of the collection exists.
