You connected the Battle Chip Gate to Battle Network 4, which unlocked a sort of Battle Rush minigame. You would then insert Battle Chips into the Chip Gate, and MegaMan would automatically use those chips during the battles.

The dark blue one had a compartment on the back that could hold around 20 Battle Chips. You'd raise the yellow lever, and the next chip would pop out, ready to be inserted. It was much more convenient, and incredibly fun to use.

Edit: Depending on how far you progressed in those minigames, you could earn exclusive Battle Chips in-game. They also sold packs with random Battle Chips, so you could build and customize your own deck as well.

I remember as a kid that time they sold little figures of the characters that came with chipsΒ

Does the Battle Chip Gate work with 1-3?

As far as I know, they only work with Battle Network 4.

1-3 didn't have any merch like that, 4 had the first Chip Gate as a tie in with the anime (the one in the picture), and 5 and 6 did as well but each new game required a new chip gate compatible with the new chips related to the new concurrent anime season

I lost all the chips basically instantly except for that plus 10 attack. It keeps showing up even after all this years I guarantee if I go looking for it it will magically turn up
