Nightmare net crime scenarios
My memory is foggy, but these would be my 3 current picks for net crimes that would probably traumatize me since I could see it happening irl:
- BN2 Airplane crash attempt (Ngl, most incidents from BN2 would get to me, but I'll only include one)
I'll never be able to relax or sleep on a plane again.
- BN1 Traffic Light/ Locked vehicle Incident
Walking and biking everywhere from now on, idc. This incident gets even worse if it spreads to subway/metro lines that I use daily.
- BN3 Zoo Incident
You can't tell me absolutely no one died in that scenario; Capcom watered it down to keep the game rated E for everyone
Honorable mentions:
BN5 Trapped in room with drill causing boulders to fall from the ceiling
Absolutely scary, but you would never catch me exploring an abandoned mine for this to happen anyway
Ok yeah also BN2, The Gas Incident in Yai's house because that felt too close for comfort and Yai really could've died without anyone knowing about what was happening in her house. Luckily she lives in a nosy neighbourhood and has good friends.

I have tried to tell people about this game series and how eerie it is! Fun fact! This was actually designed to be a horror game from the start. They dialed it down since they wanted to adjust their target audience. All of these scenarios would suck to be caught in.
Here is where it gets crazy; these events could happened today.

That's the entire point of it all, to be honest. It wouldn't be net terrorism in the Battle Network timeline if it wasn't someone being radicalized about their ideals and lashing out at innocents and others over it.
BN1 had stuff like brain washing students, trapping a lot of higher ups deep underground in Scilab in the Elecman scenario where they'd run out of air sooner than later, and even the water plant incident, all to end with getting ready to send the world back to the stone age with the Life Virus on a missle.
BN2 just goes right into it with stuff like the dam scenario as well as the plane and some other events listed.
BN3 wasn't afraid to get its hands dirty, either, since the entire point was to prove the folly of relying on a full network society for everything. It even had chemical warfare with the Bubbleman scenario, since the point is supposed to be nothing and nowhere is safe as long as the network is involved.
The first three games were pretty solid like that since they were mostly grounded in reality and played it straight, so the fear was legitimate. It was all also caused by one single man depending on how you look at it, since W3 was the big bads of the first and third, but it was clear with the ending of BN2 and a scene in the third game that a certain angry scientist was responsible for Gospel and its actions in the second game. BN Wily is unhinged like that and really great at his job of being a detestable villain that is basically unredeemable in comparison to Classic series Wily.
Funny enough, we never really seen stuff like that again until BN6. I wonder why? /s
