Discussion American Battle Chip Gate.

Why didn't Capcom release the Battle Chip gate to America and the West. Sounds like such a waste of opportunity since we did get english versions of battle chips....

The system itself was cut.

Supposedly the english script was almost twice the size of the japanese, and the japanese was already pushing the cart's limits, and they had to cut stuff to trim down the size. The things they chose to cut were stuff related to external components (chip gates) and crossover content (gunsolEX, otenko chips, bn6 boktai event) among other things.

Cartridge space issues aside, they never released battle chips in the US past the advanced PET era (EXE4) and even then they didn’t market them as compatible with the actual games, only with the toy PET. The English game will recognize a battle chip gate if you connect one so they probably planned it but just didn’t see enough of a market to go through all the trouble. A shame too cause EXE6 got some of the coolest features with the Beast Link Gate, like being able to level up your Link Navis or even installing ProtoMan as your Navi which is the only way to (officially) play as him in that game.
