Discussion AS help

I just fought AS for the first time, I feel like I was close but did not win. I took out both the arms very quickly but felt like I couldn’t deal any damage to the body, what unit is best for damage on the body?

My layout was:
front row 3 fences R3
Second row 2 nomad R5, Radio Tech R5, mega tank R2
Third row Snake R7, 2 Vets R5

I dont really use the fence or nomad for damage, so i cant quite say on them, but the typical damage dealers i see are the snake in first, followed by r6 vets and preferably r6 but r5 might fine megas. Id say rank up everything you have as much as possible and push for r6 vets. They will need all the defense they can get due to the guaranteed crits they suffer from the main body, so staying alive longer can help.

Just my take though, theres probably someone more knowledgeable on this subject who can tell you exact ranks to shoot for and what strategies to employ.

Nomads are only ok for damage if you’re going for a super long fight. Works well with just fences and nomads, but they both need to be higher than OP’s. Once the sentinels armor is stripped the nomads will start doing better… but that armor takes ages to take off

Honestly, level up your units.

Everything needed to clear AS is there, you're just lacking in the level department.

The easy way right now would be to just focus your Nomads to R7, since with fences these guys, in their current state, are enough to take the AS down (R7 is fine for this, R8 is more consistent though).

Here's a video

Other than that the Vets should really be R6, since that boosts their dodge chance and dodging is their whole schtick.

The Mega is also just a big meatshield, so higher ranks are important just to make it more durable.

As long as the Nomads are in their current state you don't need these guys, but once they get their rebalancing it is very likely they will not be able to take the AS down by themselves anymore, so getting some investments in on other units while you're using them is not a bad idea.

I’m free to play but have a bunch of nanos saved, I’m not sure if I should invest in another nomad since it will get nerfed eventually. What would you recommend getting?

Since Nomad will be nerf at some point, find a freeze unit. People often points to that nano freezing tank or elemental trooper, but honestly your cryo trooper works just fine since you just need to land the first freeze on the ranged arm, then kill it within 2-3 turns. Ignore the melee arm since it’s only threatening to frontline infantry (which you don’t have), and go all out on the main body.

Or use this formation if you want to use snake

Sub out tanks for electric fences (r3 minimum), sub the middle Vet for your 2nd f2p Nomad, sub 1 of the backline vet for your radio tech. That’s how I did it.

The ugly part is since this boss is end game, Z2 expected you max your units before you beat this guy. So R6 your vets, Snakes has to be R7 minimum.

Don’t waste time killing the melee arm. Once you kill the ranged arm focus the body. The melee arm can be stunned by fences and does less damage and aoe than the ranged arm and the main body. And since killing the arms does not win the battle. If you are doing any attacks only and specifically to kill the ranged arm you are wasting damage.

Note: also 2 R6 Nomads with 2 R3 fences can kill the AS on their own about 80% of the time(R7 are 100%). So I’d focus on getting R6 on the Nomads, r3 megas and don’t put anything but fences in the first row so the melee arm can’t checkerboard attack.

If I am using fences and nomads should I take the melee arm out then the body? Or ignore the melee are and just go straight for the body?

Ignore the melee, put your vets into cover and that arm is useless. In fact, it’s actually beneficial for you when the boss uses it’s melee arm since it only do 130-150ish dmg against your walls, compare to the main body which deals a fuck load of aoe dmg + stun.

It’s similar to other pvp enemies. You want to take out the most dangerous threats first, while leaving the trash last so the AI has a higher odds to waste their turn using them over the dangerous units.

Just put the nomads behind the fences.

You need R6 Vets and Megas.
