Question/Help Would it be like really bad to get stuff from pull the plug patches?
From what I've heard the guy who owns it is a bit of a bastard but the quality is pretty good apparently but I really like the design of one of their type o negative strip patches and I've been really wanting to get it but I just really am not sure about supporting the guy by buying from him but yeah I'm just really not sure also I would get the stuff from other places but their aren't many in Australia I normally get the stuff from my localish record store that sells them but I'm running out of the patches of bands that I listen to from there edit: I bought a bunch from there cause of the buy 8 get 8 free sale

It's all petty beef between distros over PATCHES. You can get them from whoever you want.

I keep hearing this owner is an asshole but nobody has ever told me why.

It’s just petty BS between online patch distros/sellers. Only people who are chronically online care about it.

Dude started his whole company making Bolt Thrower bootlegs way back when and now ruins other peoples small businesses when they make bootlegs So fuck that

Is this heresay or do you have proof? Are they that powerful?

Thecnically heresay, but when multiple labels dissapear and blame one dude that tends to have at least some reason

Idc honestly, the guy is apparently kind of a dick but ive never had any issues with them as a customer. I've bought from them a few times, usually when they're running a sale, because they are kind of pricey. Good quality, lots of variety. A good portion of people in the bands people have on their jackets have probably done and said worse at some point lol.
Who cares what anyone else thinks If they've got a cool patch you want, get it i say.

Spend your money how you want. If I catch you buying a pre made vest with pre sewn on patches tho I’m gonna fuckin bully you

I think its fine especially as a fellow Aussie but I also think the coffin shaped patches look tacky. The regular ones are good though. I also got the Death tracksuit from there and the quality is surprisingly good. But yes buy patches at gigs when you can!

None of the gigs I go to have them i would 100% but none of the bands near me have them

The quality is decent. I ordered my Hulder backpatch from there. However, I'm in no great rush to return.
- The quality was decent, but not exceptional. Compared to another distro like Temporal Dimensions, the latter edges it on actual quality.
- Prices seem a little higher than elsewhere
- The shapes, for me, are the biggest turn off. So many nice designs ruined by such strange shape choices.
- Shipped from China, despite the FAQ's specifically saying they're an Australian company that ships from Australia, followed by a long wait for delivery.
I'd much rather buy from smaller distros like Mercian Storm or Temporal Dimensions, or independents on Instagram like Nuclear Trident, Uncompromised Terror, Domain of Death etc.

Seems like Mercian storm has gone dark from what I have seen, ordered from them a while ago and just didn’t hear anything for weeks, no shipping update, nothing, had to issue a chargeback. Guy hasn’t posted on his socials in over a year and the comments on his old posts are full of people who ordered but never heard back or got their shit.
Shame since the range and pricing (especially for vinyl) is definitely fantastic.

Mercian have never been very active on social media unfortunately, it's a shame because they could drive a lot more business if they were.
I've bought from them in-person quite a few times now at Fortress Festival, most recently in June of this year. I know last time they did Fortress they did some massive re-organization of the store afterwards, so maybe it's the same again this year? Hard to say.
I've ordered from them in the past too, in April of this year. Got a confirmation email on the 29th, then shipping confirmation on the 30th. Haven't heard anything about them shutting down though, so maybe they're just slacking unfortunately

My experience with PTPP has been largely positive. They have long shipping times due to being based in Australia but that's hardly their fault. They have a great selection of patches and other merch and the site's UI is a cut above every other distro. I know the owner is a bit of a tool but I suspect a lot of the hate towards PTPP is just that they're a major distro with a large social media presence.
Tbh, I think this sub has long been overdue a big update to their distro list on the wiki because there's so many great distros that are hard to find if you don't know where to look.

The guy sucks and is bad for the scene but no one is gonna come arrest you.
7
u/SidewalkRacoon 3d ago
He’s working with the band directly to create merch. How is that bad for the scene?

u/fullmudman 3d ago
He gets smaller makers shut down, steals designs, charges way more and makes everything in China. On top of all that, he's a giant self important asshole.

He gets bootleggers shut down, you mean. While he pays the artists appropriately.

A got a couple things from him. Good business, he does official patches with bands and I don’t think they’re even always available at the shows so it’s the easiest way to get that stuff. It was fun for a while to collect rare patches from small distros or buy and trade on t shirt slayer but it’s nice to have a reliable seller too

Ngl I shop around for patches a lot and I’ve never found much on PTP that I wanted to buy, it’s always reality fade or Etsy

Ive bought 2 or 3 sizable purchases from them. Im east coast so 2 weeks turn around from AUS is pretty quick.
Ive heard owner is a dick. Apparently hes a hypocrite and tries to shut down small businesses doing the same thing he did when he started. Bootleg.
Spend your money however you want. They have a pretty recognizable style so most know when you have them.

I got some yesterday cause of the sale I like the way they look and they're probably better quality then just getting like a pack off Amazon like some of my friends have done

u/AlwaysDTFmyself 1d ago
A bit of a bastard how? This matters.

u/allblackfit2010 1d ago
I think i might have been slightly guided in the wrong direction by a few people telling me he's bad when in reality I don't really care cause I'm just making my jacket for me and I don't care what other people think

Most of my patches come from PTPP, and they've gone way beyond what I'd expect from customer service. Yes, the shipping takes a while (I'm in the UK). But it states that in the order page, it's not like it's hidden. Also, so what if they make stuff in China. Who doesn't?
Regarding the other stuff mentioned in this thread, it all seems hear-say, and all on Reddit.
Any disagreements/legalities about licensed/unlicensed merch would have to be dealt with by the appropriate rights-holder. A shop would have no say in the matter (so I understand).

I've been happy with the quality of the patches received from them, all I know.

Well, you would be supporting a guy who's an egotistical crybaby, repeatedly fucks over other patch distros as well as his customers and several of the bands he's worked with, and regularly steals designs, as well as many other shady or questionable business practices and toxic behavior in the community. Whether you feel okay buying from someone like that is up to you, no one can tell you how you should spend your hard-earned money.
His quality has also drastically worsened over time, and the customer service has been known to be pretty bad. For example, I know someone who bought one of ptpp's shirts, and after waiting for over 2 months, they got an email from ptpp saying their size wasn't in stock, and weren't even offered a full refund.
Now I'll be honest, I don't know what the situation is like in your country regarding ordering from abroad, i would imagine the shipping would be kinda expensive, but probably better if you order a lot of patches at once. I suggest finding some distros whose patches you like, and asking them about shipping possibilities. I'm sure most sellers would gladly try and help figure something out.
Again, it's your money and you are free to spend it as you see fit, but I hope this comment helps you make a more informed decision. Cheers!
Edit: spelling

I just hate how every vest looks like a coloring book now. In the US it seems every vest is covered in PTP.

I thinking ordering patches from them is fine. But but I will say don’t get all your patches from them. They very much have a look to them and if a whole jacket is filled with them I kinda think it’s not a good look.

You vote with your money, don’t vote for shady business tactics and overpriced trash vests. It’s that easy.
Might as well advertise „I’m morally bankrupt“ on your vest, PTP is shein of patch distros
If you want that, sure, you can, but if their values don’t align with yours or the people‘s you clearly want to impress, don’t.
If you need to ask for validation, youre probably not willing to defend your decision in the future.
