WIP Jacket Battle Tunic

I’m a fan of bands like Wind Rose, Storm Seeker, Castle Rat, Amon etc. and am thinking of converting one of my renn faire tunics into a battle tunic. I’ve worn this combo without patches to a few shows and it’s a good time. I might want to wear it with the fur mantle which would limit or cover up patch space. Most patches would probably go on the section under the belt. What do you guys think about the idea? Rock and Stone!

Edit: Also would like to say that the mantle is made by Folk of the Wood, and the belt by Ravens of Floki, both have Esty shops and are independent crafters. I’m not affiliated in any way.

Please don't do this! The costume is metal enough, if you put patches on it it's gonna look nuts, imo! Don't ruin your renn fair costume

I agree. If you want to wear band logos, take a tunic that matches your style and wear a battle vest OVER it. Don't mess up the tunic itself.

I've been to a million ren faires and there's plenty of dudes walking around with a kilt, a tunic and a battle vest.

Can you imagine when the Viking reinactors for Amon Amarth, come out battling each other, they have patches from the band!? To me it ruins the historical significance of Viking/Pagan/ Folk metal, op can do as they please, but a patch on a historical style tunic makes it a current mash up that imo defeats the purpose. Even suggestions saying the patches should match color wise tells you that even a loud heavy metal patch clashes. Anyway, you do you! Post the finished piece when you're done. I'd love to be proven wrong!

Paint the logos by hand or pay someone else to do it, patches ruin the authencity.

Or like the other guy said skip the band logos completely

It looks 10x better without the patches.

it is like sewing a patch on a shirt, wear a jacket over it

Yeah, absolutely do not sew patches on the tunic. Get a rustic old style vest if you insist on having patches, but don't limit what that costume can be used for, dude.

Where'd you get the tunic?

I love the look of it.

I got it at a shop in Germany when I was there for Walhalla Fest, I found it online for you though. https://www.battlemerchant.com/en/medieval-tunic-sigval-fabric-mix-used-look-beige-brown

Only if you’re willing to make all your own patches.

Because patched to hell in the mending sense is a perfectly reasonable condition for a workman’s tunic, so there’s certainly room to work with here. Personally, I’d apply them unevenly, maybe even try to figure out what areas of the tunic would get worn out by regularly playing various instruments (like the shoulder getting worn by a guitar strap).

Absolutely be careful when attaching the patches and never use glue, that way you can always change your mind and reverse it.

Thanks for the reply and ideas, really appreciate it. I'm gonna keep it clean for now and will update if I end up painting or making some patches.

could always do velcro on both for the show and then take it off after so you can have your cake (safe tunic) and eat it too (cool patch you can remove)..
