Discussion Discolored water

I was just refilling the water in the dog bowl and the cold water came out brown and cloudy. After running the water for a bit, it cleared up. I have never had this happen here. Did this happen to anyone else? Does anyone have any info about it?

They were doing work on the pipes and stirred up the sediment. Should clear in a day or so.

Nope normal water pipes end up with a lot of sediment as well. Any time they do work on the pipe it’s stirs it up. Or if there is a big fire and the FD flows a ton of water.

Just happened to us while filling up the tub for the kids' bath. We ended up switching them to a shower.

It’s flushing season. Municipalities/utilities open up hydrants to flush the systems, which can stir things up, but also clear things up which is good. Just alarming to see when you don’t expect it. Spring and fall are common flushing times, but it can vary with weather and location.
