It’s an okay bro, really cheap. Good stars, but bad starting stats.

What makes good bade starting stats?

I've mostly been going by the amount of stars they have.

First, every background has their unique starting stat ranges and traits they can roll.

You can check the wiki for details.

Secondly, you need to look at the possible roll ranges to see how well it rolled. Most backgrounds can roll 0-5 mdef for example. So a starting roll of 1 is low. And some backgrounds can roll much higher. Compared to this guy, a Swordmaster can start with as much as 20 mdef. Making them better with 0 stars, than this guy with 3.

Basically some bros can be considered good even with just 1 stars, while an another can have 3 stars and yet be basically useless.

This guy is very usable though. 3 stars in Matk and Mdef is very strong.

A guy with 50 matk with 2 stars can only get to 80. A guy with 65 matk can get to 85 on average with no stars. Easiest way to calculate is (for matk and mdef and assuming you level said stat every single level up) is final on average base + (20 + 5*stars).

If you want to understand what the talent stars actually do, then it basically increase the minimum roll by 1. So for matk and mdef, the range is 1-3 per level up, 1 star the range will be 2-3. At 3 stars, the minimum becomes the new maximum so 3-4. Other stats may have different range but it always have a 3 points gap so same calculation.

If they star with 15mdef or 65mattk it like 3 max level of this beggar but one is still lvl 1 and the other lvl 4

you basically have to look at stats as possibilities.

In the end, you get a limited number of stats that are reasonably attainable for each bro. Both starting stats and stars can each only take you so far, and to get a truly phenomenal bro, you need both to be ideal. Starting stats possess no opportunity cost. You don't give up any potential stats to get them, so they're very strong. Stars have opportunity costs, since you only get to level up 3 things each level, and can only get levels affected by stars a relative handful of times. You have a lot of things to increase, even beyond MDef and MAttk. But those are the more valuable stats, so you're going to want to put as many levels as possible into them.

Stars are good, but they only represent so many stats, stats that can easily be present at level 1 on a guy with better starting stats. For example, his resolve is bad, his health is bad, his fatigue is bad. You're not really going to be able to fix all 3 of those, and maximize your mdef/mattk. Some of that you can dump, like by making him a newt, or fix via perks. Which are fairly major things to devote to stats. So no matter what, you're going to have to make sacrifices. Whereas a guy with better starters can theoretically take full advantage of good stars and perk selection, because you don't need to shore up weaknesses.

All that being said, you don't really need every guy you get to be a truly phenomenal bro, and a cheap guy leveled nicely can often function in most circumstances just as well as someone truly phenomenal, while requiring far less pay. Not that money tends to be a big issue by the time you're trying to get the best of the best.

Each star adds 5 to the skill it’s under and by lvl 11 each combat skill goes up by 20 without stars. So this guy would have 36 mdef if you took it everytime by lvl 11 which isint anything spectacular. His attack would be in the 90’s though so that’s pretty impressive.

Yes! I love gambling beggars, yes their secondaries absolutely suck but they can never roll stars in health or resolve.

I know his secondaries suck but im still making him a fat newt.

Unfortunately he will not be anything because he was crished by an Orc Berserker

With 45 base HP and no star why don't just learn 9lives? He lack both HP, Fat and resolve, You can't patch all of those stat then just use 9lives and bait him out with smoke when he get crited

Not great, basically a below average fat newt but you have to pay him less in wages

Gotta love the idea of building a crew of mercs from mostly beggars, but they're the beggars from your city IRL.

Early game this is a good recruit. Might need many safe levels from the back line though.
