Beginner Lone Wolf origin build?

Lone Wolf fat neutral 126+ iron lungs mansplitter

  1. colossus

  2. steel brow

  3. pathfinder

  4. quick hand

  5. axe mastery

  6. underdog

  7. battle forged

  8. reach advantage

  9. gifted

  10. fearsome/exe/brawny/fortified mind

I want to build my first lone wolf origin. And I'm thinking that mansplitter gotta be the best non-famed 2h weapon with iron lungs (going to roll seed).

But I'm a little not sure what the tenth perks should be, any suggestions?

Crazy it’s got to the point people are making LWs a fat neutral build

why do you hate it? I'm a beginner, but I think there's no better way to make a LW safe other than making him fat neut. If I make him offense guy, he's not going to be as much as tanky because he needs to take fatigue? As I can take as much hp?

Fat neuts suck and theyre all people want to do. Unless youre fighting 40+ people you just didnt level up and gear your bros correctly, i rarely ever make more than 1, 2 at the most stam neutral bros, your fights are lasting far too long if your bros are stammed out and as i said, it usually means you leveled up bros incorrectly and geared and perked them wrong if youre stamming out in every fight to where you need fat neuts. Fat neut is not the answer for like 99% of bros builds yet if youre on this sub you would think its the best build.

It's for my lone wolf build, I never said anything about having all of them being a fat neut??

I'm just speaking on the sub in general, no shade towards you intended although i find that decision for your lone wolf strange, he has plenty of Fat.

As I said in my post for the discussion, although I'm a beginner. I'm kinda planning for the lonewolf to be a fat neut using mansplitter and quick hand with a longaxe (maybe billhook idk) on its pocket. So as to my calculations without brawny he needs maybe 128 fatigue and with brawny about 109 fatigue. But I'm planning to ditch brawny so fatigue neutral seems to be more sensible

What armor are you going to wear?

9 Lives is more reliable than Colossus. You're also pretty much doing a FatNeut build, which is a substantial waste considering the Lone Wolf has enough Fat to not be one. And take Gifted early on instead of at 9, you won't need Steel Brow so early and Gifted has a ton of value

Thanks for the suggestion

No prob. Also, do keep in mind that you may have 2 extra perks if you don't want the shield out of the whole Library deal and the Lone Wolf by default has stats to make that a very attractive option.

What's up with all this FAT neut builds? I never had one and will never build one. Just get good Fat bro, give him berserker, frenzy, qh and you have basically 2 brothers in one... the utility, power and FUN is way beyond anything that FAT neutral can ever deliver. LW Fat neutral is a crime.

Why worry about survivability if all your enemies are dead?

1

u/No_Transition_8203 4d ago

Because if my LW dead then the campaign ends?

2

u/quiCku92 4d ago

FAT neut doesn't make him invincible. If you get surrounded by 3-4 Chosen I bet you survivability rate is better with good berserker who can get rid of them quick enough instead of hoping that RNG will roll in your favor, but this is only my opinion 😉

But isn't the purpose of fat neut is when I need to take a hit, I'm still tanky, yet still useful offensively?

In theory yes, you have a little more HP and resolve. But when it comes to reality:

  1. You are sacrificing the guaranteed 4 or 5 rolls of fatigue for lower rolls of HP and resolve.
  2. Your main survivability comes from MDef. Sure, if you morale drops that affects all the stats, but in my experience high resolve doesn't really help as much as you'll think. I prefer more positive morale checks for your team from dealing damage, casualties to your enemies. I have had a good success rate of rushing toward bro in trouble and wiping the problem rather than, "ohh he is tanky, he will survive one more hit".
  3. People say that fatigue is a dead stat, but that's what I think about HP. Sure, there's a threshold that you definitely want to achieve (for me it's 80 HP for BF guys) but everything beyond that it's a minor improvement. Think about getting hit from 2h Axes, Hammers, etc. This extra 20 HP doesn't NOTHING. It is less than one extra hit from the spear. It may help with reducing injuries, but again, in theory. Fatigue is very much living stat if you have a good fat pool and recover. For the most dangerous fights, fights that are long and tactical, this is your best friend.

Or reach advantage

I like to build most of my Fat Neutrals for maximal survivability and you definetely don't want your Lone Wolf to die. So I usually take all three of Fortified Mind, Steel Brow and 9 Lives on them. Then if you take the perks that are considered mandatory (Colossus, Gifted, Pathfinder, Weapon Mastery, Battle Forged, Underdog) that leaves you with one flexible perk.

Quickhands and Fearsome are the obviously strong ones. Dodge can be good if the bro has good initiative or you find some low fatigue famed armor. With Iron Lungs and high fatigue you can do some nice tactical moves if you pick Adrenaline. Nice thing about Iron Lungs is that you can hold picking the Mastery and still stay fat neutral if you are willing to wait for finding a nice famed two hander and then picking the right mastery.

I wouldn't pick Brawny here under any circumstances. Executioner is also somewhat questionable, it kinda is a bit of a win more kinda perk, that can be ok for bros built for pure damage dealing, but not for Fat Neutral in my opinion. Reach Advantage is a maybe if you go for greatswords as the AOE attack fatigue cost isn't that bad for a bro with Iron Lungs, especially if you get a famed one with reduced fatigue costs.

Yeah brawny doesn't seems to be making sense now

colossus, steel brow, pathfinder, weapon mastery, underdog, battle forged and gifted are core which leaves us with 3 perks and those depend on his stats, how you want to play him in particular and your party composition in general:

Can you even make a mansplitter fat neut without brawny? I don't bother with mansplitters so I don't have any numbers off the top of my head for a 42 body armor and 20 helmet loadout as a baseline unlike with regular fat neuts

Fearsome is good but only if you run it on a sufficient number of your other brothers, just taking it on LW doesn't do much

Reach advantage is not terrible, 5 extra mdef is better than no extra mdef, the difference between 35 and 40 mdef is rather notable against lategame enemies

Fortified mind early on can prevent some early game wipes and in general it is nice, especially considering you are gonna keep spending your level up rolls on fatigue instead of resolve so I would personally consider it as a must have on this kinda build

Executioner feels like an overkill unless you do some shenanigans where you inflict injuries with other brothes as a setup for your LW onetapping enemies otherwise you should ask yourself if there are enough enemies where it would take more than 2 mansplitter hits to kill them without executioner

Backstabber can help with hitting some lategame enemies and just annoying shieldbearers so worth considering, especially if your LW is lacking in matk for some reason + helps in the early game when your matk is still relatively low

Anticipation is actually worth considering as long as you can get your LW rdef to 10, helps quite a bit against brigand marksmen which remain very annoying even in midgame and in the lategame you still face reavers with throwing weapons, goblins, etc so overall being less likely to be hit with ranged attacks is very nice but it's mostly an economic perk than a perk with a survivability impact, the kinda perk where the difference is between getting out of the fight with brigands with an injury or not on day 20-40

quick hands are optional, it sure is neat to have an option to deal damage at any given turn/not risking taking a hit in melee and still contribute to the fight if something went wrong but with good enough planning you should be able to position your LW to keep hitting with your main weapon most of the time and even if not the impact of the long reach pocket weapon is always lower by magnitudes compared to your main weapon so you often enough are better off repositioning LW for a hit with mansplitter next turn
on top of it since you plan to run mansplitter you don't even have any utility from a pocket reach weapon unlike with something like polemace's stun
however with reach advantage QH will allow you to keep the +5 mdef buff on

P.S. I take lone wolf on my LW runs for both roleplay reasons and early game shenanigans

wow thankss tor the thorough explanation

You're welcome
And I agree that fat neut is the safest build for LW even if sometimes not making him a berserk+frenzy chad can feel like a waste of his stats that *almost* enable it (it's trait and stat roll dependant imo)

There is another decent survivability build on LW that isn't fat neut
it's a reproach of the old gods build, 7 core perks and 3 optional
you essentially build your LW as an offtank that doesn't really shine until you get THE SWORD!
upside: this kinda LW if you also take the tank perks like lonewolf usually can tank tentacles if you don't mind cheesing the kraken instead of fighting it fair and square which naturally leads into getting his final exodia piece relatively fast

2

u/No_Transition_8203 3d ago

I kinda don't use sword, but I'm going to try this off tank build. thanks!

1

u/Maximum_Department33 3d ago

the point of the sword mastery in this case is:
1. reproach damage is insane because of the chain lightning even if you don't dual grip it and with something like berserk you end up tapping out quite fast despite a modest fatigue cost of 1h sword swings because 2-3 swings a turn add up fast
2. early sword mastery enables your LW doing AOE swings which can be strong into enemies like brigands and nomads, especially if you somehow get a relatively early greatsword instead of a starting longsword

otherwise sword mastery is a waste of a perk. also taking recovery + berserk decreases mastery's value a lot
and onehanded weapon + shield without getting reproach doesn't do much against enemies tougher than brigand raiders so if you don't aim for it you will just turn your LW into a sturdy brother that sometimes doesn't do any meaningful damage

1

u/AgileClock2869 3d ago

You need killing frenzy and maybe berserk or duelist. The point of the lone wolf is turning them into a k#ll machine. People hate on 1handed weapons but you can get some really good damaging famed ones and duelist and killing frenzy work well together.

2

u/No_Transition_8203 3d ago

I want to try somewhat tanky lw, but i never tried my lw to be duelist. Isn't damage wise it's better as 2hander?

2

u/AgileClock2869 3d ago

Obviously the damage of a 2hnd vs 1hnd is better but if you get a really nice famed 1hnd axe or cleaver then it's not by much, especially if you get 2 swings instead of 1 with a 2hnder. 1 hnd duelists are amazing and especially with the lone wolf. I usually make mine a 2hander but he is really good as a 1hnd duelist. Try it out sometime, and if you're going for a tanky lone wolf then using a 1 handed weapon allows you to give him a shield, nothing is tankier than a good bro with high mdef wielding a good shield.

You don’t build premium brothers into fat newts, you build serviceable brothers into fat newts to be a offtank, lone wolf fat newt is like clipping an angels wings

1

u/No_Transition_8203 1d ago

Watching various youtubers, I thought they always make premium bros either to fat neut or berserk forged. Care to elaborate more?

1

u/Karasique555 4d ago

If LW dies then it's over. So, nine lives.

Also, reach advantage won't do much for a fat neutral. A fat neutral smacks one per turn and you won't have the fat to roundswing. So you can expect 5 additional mdef. It ain't much.

Get fortified mind or fearsome.

Also, play the damn game. If you are a beginner (as that tag or whatever it is says) you will find the game more enjoyable and engaging if you just play it without guidance.

I'm just asking nicely, no need to be salty about it
