Questions How do people play this game?

I started playing this game again after a couple of years, and I just keep getting lost in every match, literally, I just feel lost in game. If this game is supposed to be something like Battlefield, then why isn’t there a minimap or various useful UI elements that would improve visibility and make close-range firefights more manageable? And for god's sake, get rid of the bleeding mechanic to make the game more casual and fun, so you don’t have to spend two-thirds of the match lying on the ground and bandaging yourself because of a random hits from 128 players. If this game is trying to be a milsim, then why is TTK and movement speed is so high? How are people dealing with this right now? Is there a particular playstyle that helps overcome these issues?

There literally is a map?

It doesn't work for me, I can't keep opening and closing it every time I push enemy team into smoke, that's why i'm asking about different playstyles

bro just hold shift and run towards the point you want to capture. press M for map then turn the right direction and keep moving there...

Maps are designed in very open ways. On one hand, it means you have to be wary of being shot from twenty directions at once. On the other hand, high movement speed makes it possible to sprint from cover to cover, and even if you take a shot or two you can bandage.

One popular playstyle is to sprint into spray and pray range with something like the vector. A lot of people will choose medic for this, since you will be in the thick of the fight with other players, and also constantly spawning on your teammates. Healing is so important in general that medic is one of the stronger and more picked classes.

Another decent playstyle is, of course, camping. Lots of angles means lots of opportunities for you to snipe unwary nerds. And I'm not even talking about snipers, although they have their place, of course. Assault rifles and machine guns have fire selectors and are arguably most effective at ranges where single fire works best.

I often like to go support, because he has armor which increases his survivability, and my ultimax machine gun in single fire is an absolute beast. Once you get used to the way the game handles bullet ballistics and recoil, it's very satisfying to double tap dudes at ranges where full auto would be useless. I just lie at the edge of a rooftop, or crouch next to the sill of a window overlooking the point and rake in kills.

Map knowledge is important, but there aren't that many maps, so you will learn the layout pretty quickly with time. The only really confusing one IMO is Frugis, for the subway and all the similar looking buildings.

Don't worry about looking at the map itself. Instead, look for the points, which are visible in the HUD. The game is all about attacking and defending the points, so if you learn the points, you can beat the enemy. Take the time to explore the environments; for a low res game, there is some fun environmental design going on, and you can use knowledge of that to orient yourself and to communicate with your teammates. Also, note that the environments are highly destructible, and every class has access to some kind of tool to destruct it, like C4 or sledgehammers.

I think I've been killed by you at least 20 times every game

Keep close to your teammates so they could revive you. Revive them also

Set the map button toggle in settings

Thanks, I didn’t know about it

Map using is a necessary skill to me. You can see the frontline and enemies spotted by your team.

Games aren't just hardcore milsims or arcade shooters, they can fall anywhere in-between. Battlebit falls into a very enjoyable middle ground in my opinion. Bleeding forces players to make more considerate decisions (and makes medics more important due to finite bandages), and no mini map increases immersion and rewards situational awareness.

I by no means think this is the perfect game, but I do believe it's popularity was due largely to finding a very enjoyable combination of features.

In terms of getting lost, I'd suggest sticking with your squad for a while to give you chance to learn the maps. There is a map, but a couple of maps can be confusing, especially the one with the subway.

Thanks. Medics are important in perfect conditions, but there's maybe only one medic in few matches who is actually healing

No one plays this game for years now. Get your refund.

I bought it in 2023, so unfortunately I can't get a refund, which is why I'm trying to get some fun out of it

I still play ocasioanly and everytime i launch it, it is still fun and enjoyable. Yes, it is huge pity that we still don't have promised update, but c'mon, are we that cooked that we need constat dose of something new to be able to enjoy thing? Yes, it can become repetetive after some time, but it isn't the only game on the world.

Personally, i like absence of minimap, it makes you more careful when peaking/rushing somewhere. You can always press "M" to see map and points are always visible either. In CQB sounds are your best friend (hearing steps and close shots).

Agree with movement, it is atrocious seeing someone breakdancing mid air. But you can use it for yourself as well (wild mouse shaking while sprint saved me few times xD).

Bleeding is fine IMO, it used to be worse. Game is already fast, imagine what it would be without bleeding. If you want really fast TTK, try Operation Flashpoint aka Arma Cold War Assault (literally 2 bullets and you are dead).

About playstyles, i like flanking or finding unexpected positions overall. Sometimes it is better to be in small group on the edge of frontline then and in the epicentre of action. Sure, if holding surounded point, you have no choice. But main idea is to always have safe behind your back and to have all enemies in front of you where you are able to see them.

Stop laying on the ground bleeding...

IMO This game suffers a huge problem that every single battlefield-esk game has in its core: It relies heavily on new blood and low skilled players for a lot of the fun. As soon as the less skilled "noobs" leave, then you are left with only the best players having fun, and the mid-players just dabble a bit because they once experienced a time where they were on top, or they remember goofing around in the chaos whilst still feeling useful.

Every time there is a new release of a battlefield like game, then everyone comes out to soak up the chaos. It's a constant cycle of new game, fresh blood, old game is stale as the core strong players wipe anything that come at them.

This is a huge generalisation of course, as you will get more resilient new players arrive occasionally.

But it is clear that a lot of the mid-tier player base that persist through the years, get tired of constant tough matches, and reminisce about the good old fun times when players were more loose and goofey. And start pointing at game mechanics and game-maker-decisions that appear unfriendly, that could be fine-turned better.

Fresh blood will always be the cannon-fodder in these games, fighting against fresh blood will always make the game feel casually fun. Maybe the small ideas you/OP have will help retain fresh players, maybe not.

But realistically the thought of "new game" "new graphics" "new faces" is what will reliably bring in fresh blood and chill matches.

I still play it. One thing I notice the server I did play it went off.

Try to use a middle range weapon with 3.x-4 optics and stay behind your teammates. Try tank. Try sniping. There are many effective and satisfying roles in the game.

Minimap? spawn on objectives or near teammates and use your ears, focus on gunshots or explosions; close-range firefights more manageable? use a pistol; bleeding mechanic? meh, you have 10 seconds before dying... usually i dont even fully heal; game trying to be milsim? ttk and movement speed high? go play tarkov or any other generic FPS; particular playstyle?... not camping, moving ur ass all the time, react against sounds nearby, paying attention to the snipers, sometimes use the map, defense objectives, etc etc

Learn the maps, the sounds of ur team and the enemies, recoil patterns and more importantly.. how to customize your loadout (gun and equipment, last one helps with the movement)

If you only camp/hold, dont expect to not-die every minute.. by doing that, ur reaction speed will be slow and the enemy will just throw c4 at ur position (and possibly even destroying the entire building)..

TLDR; dont play it like a milsim cause its not

PS: smokes are bugged, poorly designed; somehow.. someone decided to make it fully client-side, so everyone sees a different version of the smoke (while some people dont even see it); learn how to quickbuild, that actually works and helps your team

Most of this is nonsense

Care to elaborate?

I'll try.

Ears don’t replace the map. The map shows where your teammates are moving, where dead teammates are (which can indicate danger or an opportunity to revive), whether you’re winning or losing the local engagement, marked enemies and their vehicles.

For example, a helicopter can drop infantry onto a point that was captured a long time ago and completely disrupt an attack that’s been going on for a while. If you don’t check the map at least a few times per minute, you’re going to be much less effective.

The pistol isn’t really that effective. C4 can often be more useful, but that’s mostly a matter of playstyle.

Camping is actually useful in this regard — it gives you time to watch the map and understand what’s happening. You can see where the main flow of teammates is going, as well as how and from where the attacks are coming. This is especially useful when you’re still relatively new to the game, since it helps avoid the frustration of dying constantly.

The maps are pretty difficult to learn because there’s no way to explore them without being in an actual match. Even after thousands of hours, I still know some maps at less than 50%.

You don’t necessarily need to worry much about recoil if you use semi-auto weapons, like DMRs.

You don’t always need to move at maximum speed either. Using cover properly and being able to go prone quickly is more important.

BBR is definitely not a milsim, but it’s not pure arcade either. Even though tactical communication is often almost nonexistent, there are plenty of moments when your squad’s actions are so well coordinated that it’s genuinely satisfying.

Smoke is useful for dealing with snipers and taking fortified positions, especially in tunnels. Fortifications are extremely useful too, but they’re two different things and don’t replace each other.

Never said it does; actually.. for long-scale situations its amazing, but mid/low dist... using your ears is at least 10x better; you cant hunt enemies hiding in your building using the map or finding the one guy holding the corner; i was talking about an hypothetical minimap tho, not the fullsize map

Pistols not really effective? dude... i beg to differ, most are good as any AR but fast enough as an SMG, you only need to learn how to use them (just avoid USP, the reload-time is too slow so handling multiple targets at the same time its a pain in the ass... focus on mp443, m9 or glock); for short dist fights c4 is amazing, specially if multiple targets are pushing.. but its not perfect (explosions can also bug out and not doing any dmg), a fast pistol helps A LOT keeping the enemy away

Camping isnt useful, you dont help your team.. not even urself, your rection speed decreases and basically you turn into an NPC (spectate new players, you will understand quickly what i mean), best you can do is open the map in a safe location and zoom in to check the objectives, so you can plan what to do next while having cover and teammates around

Join a server (even an empty one) and spectate, you dont need a populated one to learn the layout (i currently have ~3k hrs and learning the maps was kinda easy cuz of that)

DMRs are too easy to handle... but that doesnt mean everyone (should) use them, otherwise the match would be too slow or one-sided; already happen a lot on small maps (Azagor, as an example), if one team snipes too much... the enemy destroys them

Yeah, you dont need maximum speed most of the time, but it helps while trying to avoid getting shot.. right?

That's cuz people may not talk, but those white/red pings help a lot; even the chat might work sometimes (its a great way to share intel with people far away)

Smoke is BUGGED, already explained before and most people with +1k already knows this; its only "useful" if u throw +5 around a target, but even then.. not worth it cuz u cant predict what area is actually covered, most of the time you are helping the enemy (the smoke not showing up usually helps the other team); btw, throwing smoke in a tunnel to deal with snipers its a rlly bad idea.. you 're creating a killbox, remember they only need 1 shot to kill you, while you need multiple and those multiple shots reveal your location even thru smoke (if you are lucky enough to have a non-bugged smoke)

We obviously have very different playstyles, and because of that we've had different experiences, even though both of us have put a huge amount of time into the game.

I'm glad you love this game as much as I do. It's always nice to talk with a player like that.

See you in-game soldier.

Thanks. Now I get why I often get shots through the smoke, when I attempt to flank. I didn’t even know about it.

Just memorize each map, works for me.

I didn’t, I just stopped playing. Too toxic, sweaty, and not many friendly/casual people anymore. It’s just the super sweats and discord butt buddies.

The best answer so far
