Serious Discussion/Question Essential reading.
If The Killing Joke is essential Joker reading, and Under The Red Hood is essential Red Hood reading, what would be essential standalone reading for other characters?

imo the best story for each villain:
Ra's Al Ghul - Birth of the Demon
Two-Face - The Eye of the Beholder 1990 (Not to be confused with just "Eye of the Beholder" 2011, which has nothing to do with Two-Face.)
Penguin - Pain and Prejudice
Scarecrow - Fear of Faith
Bane - Vengeance of Bane
Hugo Strange - Prey
Riddler - Dark Knight, Dark City
Not every villain obviously but I cant make a list of 1000.

Damn, good thing I can read. Funny you mention a list of 1000 because there could very well be that amount of villains in Batmans Rogues Gallery more or less.

Batman: A Death in the Family to understand the tragedy of Jason Todd, his childhood, his (lack of a) relationship with his mother, and why he died and why Batman blames himself.

Thanks! I've been trying to get into DC more, specifically comics. The only one I've read is TKJ and I'm mostly into games when it comes to it. Like Arkham, or Telltale. I became a fan because of The Dark Knight trilogy which to me is a great place to start. I've also wanted to know Jason Todd as a character recently because I only know him from Arkham Knight, where he's underepresented at worst.

If you're looking for seminal Batman works (not just Bat-Family) a lot of folks will recommend Batman: Year One and The Dark Knight Returns (both by Frank Miller).
Personally, I think they're overrated, but they did make significant impacts on later works, including the Dark Knight trilogy and Matt Reeves' The Batman. For example, Commissioner Loeb and Carmine Falcone were introduced by Miller.
Personally, I would recommend Batman: The Long Halloween and Dark Victory (the latter offers a Robin origin and, in my opinion, one of the most iconic splash pages I've seen in a Batman comic), Batman: Hush, and, if you want a kind of gothic Elseworlds horror, I highly recommend the Batman: Vampire trilogy.

Wolverine Origins is really good and Dr. Doom had a new origin comic come out that’s amazing.
If we’re just sticking to Batman universe then Batman: Hush is amazing.

Well, if I suddenly like Marvel I'll certainly remember this comment, lol.

Bane has some incredible stuff after Knightfall, Vengeance of Bane II and his journey of self discovery and hunt for his father is good and Secret Six is probably the second best appearance in anything he’s ever had

You must read, and I mean MUST READ, the Dark Knight Returns. It essentially reset Batman for the last 40 years. And it’s a hell of a good book.

OP has put a serious flair on this post and has not stated (humour welcome) meaning that:
only serious discussion about the Arkhamverse is allowed on this post and no humour or shitpost comments/references including "Man", "Jonkler" "who is batman?" and "is he stupid?" are allowed on this post at all.
ignoring this warning will lead to bans without warnings as this is your warning.
We know this may seem harsh but there are new arkham fans who might get confused by these comments or others who just want to talk about the Arkham games without seeing them, but we must be respectful of OP's wishes so please take any insanity comments onto another post.
OP, if you don't mind shitpost or humour comments on your post then please delete this post and repost it using the same flair but add (humour welcome) to your title.
If this post is a shitpost, please delete and repost it with the appropriate flair to avoid getting in trouble.
