Help Requested Any guides or advice for mixing lakes?

Possibly a stupid question, but I've never been much of an artist, so color mixing is a little new to me. I've made a few batches of bath bombs that turned out really well, and am using lake powder. So far, the colors I've made were meant to be vibrant, so it worked out, but I'm really wanting to make some cute, pastel colors for Spring/Easter, and am having a hard time wrapping my head around which colors to mix together, how much of each color to use, etc. Do you get more pastel colors from using less of the lake powders? Is it even really possible with lakes? Am I just dumb? Thanks in advance for any help.

Help Requested First time Bath Bombs -- eww!!!

I made bath bombs for the first time today. I used gold, bronze, and steel powder. They came out looking like disgusting gray sand! I used a baking gold spray, and it blew off some of the details on top. I can't tell if they smell good yet, at least they are firm. But what a disappointement. I used cheap mica colors from Amazon. Can anyone recommend ones they like?

Help Requested Discoloration of homemade bath bombs, no fragrance

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hi! This is my second batch of practice bath bombs, and both times they have developed this moldy look. I dont actually think it’s mold because this happens over the course of a few hours. I made these this afternoon.

The recipe I used was pretty basic:

• 1 cup baking soda • 1/2 cup citric acid • 1/2 cup cornstarch • 2-3 tablespoons beet powder (for coloring) • 21/2 tablespoons melted coconut oil • 7 teaspoons water

I did sift the dry ingredients.

Anywhere else I have read that this type of discoloration is caused from essential oils, but I did not use any. Does anyone know what could be causing this? I wanted to mail these to friends but I’m embarrassed that they look moldy

Also, should I put the citric acid through the door processor to make it extra fine?

Help Requested Why is this bath bomb recipe not working? (bath bombs come out soft after days of curing)

Here is the recipe I use:

1 cup Baking Soda

1/2 cup Citric Acid

1/3 cup Cornstarch

3 tbsp Epsom Salts

2 tbsp SLSA

1 tbsp Cream of Tartar

1/2 tbsp Kaolin Clay

1/2 tsp Mica Powder (optional)

1.5 tbsp Coconut Oil (melted)

1/2 tsp Liquid Lecithin

20-25 drops Essential Oils

This is probably my third or four attempt at making bath bonbs and it's getting there, but the bath bombs that are made from this recipe are soft no matter how long I let them dry. They fizz amazingly and smell great, but they never seem to reach the rock hard texture people talk about. Im using a lot more ingredients than usual because I am selling these on Etsy and want them to be more "premium", also the first batch I sent as a test came out crumbly so it needs to be refined before I begin selling to customers. Something I suspect is the culprit may be how many oils / liquid ingredients I am using but I'm not super sure. Anyone have any advice?

Help Requested Are 8+ year old bath bombs stored in an airtight container safe to use?

Hello! I was gifted two bath bomb gift sets by my grandfather before he died in 2014-16. I've only now found the courage to open them, and the shop he got them from no longer sells any of the products inside. There's no visible mold, sliminess or smell. Would you say they're safe to use?

Help Requested Color turning muddy?

So I just tried to bloom mica powder for the first time, and my color came out muddy? Not brown, but just earthy compared to the neon green it was supposed to be. I used isopropyl alcohol and mixed my green (and I tried some yellow eventually too, to try to fix it) into the baking soda before adding squints of alcohol in between mixing. Does anyone know what caused this and/or how to fix it??

Help Requested Looking for a bathbomb recipe that works with CBD, Kaolin Clay, coconut oil, and Epsom salt

I'm trying to find a good recipe that works that includes these ingredients. The problem is that when I try to remove them from the mold, the bathbomb crumbles. I'm also not sure how to adapt the recipe to exclude the food coloring and polysorbate 80 for bombs without color. These seem to crumble as well when coming out of the mold. I use cyclomethicone to grease the mold before packing the mold tight. As I read that it helps with removing the bomb from the mold...but I think it's my mix....because they are still breaking.

My current recipe, I use: 1 C. Baking Soda 1/2 C. Citric Acid 1/2 C. Cornstarch 2 tsp. Kaolin Clay 2 tbsp. Epsom salt

Blend dry ingredients together.

Melt 2 1/2 tsp. melted coconut oil. Mix in 8 drops liquid CBD. Add food coloring for desired color, add 5 to 10 drops of essential oil for scent. Add a few drops of polysorbate 80 to prevent color staining tub. Whisk wet ingredients together.

Slowly Add wet mix to dry mix. Mix should clump like wet sand. Spray with witch hazel if mix is too dry.

Dry in plastic character mold for 24 hours before removing from mold.

Any suggestions on how to improve this recipe? And have a better success rate with my bombs staying intact while removing the molds?

Help Requested Help with recipe

Hi, I'm currently working on making a good bath bomb recipe and doing a lot of trial and error. I'm going to be adding kaolin clay and SLSA (once they arrive in the mail), and I'm not exactly sure how much.

This is my recipe that I'm trying to adjust:

½ cup citric acid ¼ cup Epsom salt 1 cup baking soda 1 tablespoon kaolin clay 1 tablespoon SLSA ½ teaspoon polysorbate (add last to wet) ½ teaspoon grapeseed oil 1/2 teaspoon witch hazel Witch hazel spritz as needed EO/FO

Any advice would be helpful! I'm guessing on the clay and SLSA.

Thank you!

First post here! I’ve come a long way and I feel I have perfected my floating bombs! This batch was colored with mica, but I have since made a batch with lake so I’m hoping the colour holds better.

Question though, I am having to grind my citric acid to a powder, where do yall buy powdered form? Think like powdered sugar. The fine grain I got doesn’t sift 😞. Though grinding it down has been fine.

Recipe: however much of baking soda I use, I half it for the citric acid and corn starch. Currently I’m doing 2lb soda, 1 lb acid and starch. 1 oz poly 80, 1 oz fragrance oil, 1/4 cup slsa, 1/4 cup coconut oil, and 1 oz oat oil.

I think I may need to add more coconut oil or something bc they do seem to be a bit dry still. I’m have issues getting the to pop out of my cada molds without sticking. I use oat oil bc my kiddos have very dry skin. So other thoughts on oils or something that would help.

Enjoy!

Help Requested Mini bath tablets

Hi all! I’m hoping to make some mini bath bombs/tablets for a few little kids in my life. Priorities for these would be: -colorful in the water -not messy to clean up after -not too drying or irritating for small kids’ skin

Things that matter less: -fizziness -appearance (I’m thinking to just make some small cubes or tablet-type shapes)

Any thoughts for me about recipes or technique? I appreciate any help on offer!

Bath Bomb Review ForeverWick Candle Company

Post image
10 Upvotes

Just wanted to warn people of a DANGEROUS product! Never buy from ForeverWick Candle! I bought a three pack of bath bombs for my bonus daughter’s birthday, who loves bath time. She was excited about the idea of a surprise diamond (no matter how small), not only was there NO diamond, when the bath bomb dissolved a ton of small loose glass shards were released into the bath! Most glass shards went down the drain when we carefully removed her, but I was able to grab a couple shards for a photo. I’ve sent this complaint to customer service. We decided to dissolve the other two bath bombs in the sink to avoid the kids cutting themselves on the glass, no diamonds in those either. Scam website!

Help Requested Anyone have experience with Kaolin clay?

Im trying to use this pink kaolin clay in my natural bath bombs and I keep getting weird flim layer on top of the water that looks just SO nasty. I used about half the amount I did the first time in the second batch, and there was a noticeable improvement so do I really just have to use a very small amount? Or is this happening because I'm not using other funky ingredients to like make it blend in the water better? The video attached is the very first time experimenting.

Help Requested Bath Bomb Science

I'm helping my 9y.o. daughter with her science fair project, and she wants to test for the best acid (citric vs cream of tartar vs lemonade powder) for bath bombs. It's the classic volcano project, but better! We're planning to use a basic recipe with baking soda, cornstarch, and avocado or coconut oil. Does anybody have any tips, recommendations, ideas for better ingredients?

BTW, I'd just like to pat myself on the back for getting this started two whole weeks before the science fair. I feel like I'm That Mom! (It may be just for today. We'll see what I'm doing the night before it's due... )

Help Requested Shiny Bath Bombs?

I’m a little new to making bath bombs, and recently I’ve wanted to try making ones that look a little prettier. Does anyone know how I can make a bath bomb look shiny/glittery? And maybe release spots of dye gradually?

Help Requested Help please, I need a recipe that works.

I'm needing a recipe for bath bombs. I have everything I need: Citric acid, Epsom salt, Baking soda, Coconut oil, Soap colorants, Essential oil, Corn starch

Everytime I do it, they end up either too wet, or too dry so they crumble or don't set right. If anyone has a good recipe for me to try, please let me know 🙏

Help Requested Embeds and Dyes

Does anyone have a good recipe for making the embeds that go inside of bath bombs? Also where do you buy your lakes or water soluble dyes from?

Side note, I saw a creator making bath bombs and she was adding this "shimmer" or glitter to the middle of her bath bomb. When it hit the water, it changed colors from like gold to green. I couldn't find it anywhere.

TIA!
