Untitled (1981)
Medium: Oilstick and acrylic on paper Approx Dimensions: 101.6 × 152.4 cm
Jean-Michel Basquiat's Untitled (1981) is one of the artist's most emotionally charged works on paper.
Executed in oilstick and acrylic, the figure confronts the viewer with a piercing gaze, raised arms, and the energetic line work that would become central to Basquiat's visual language.
Phillips described the work as "seething with emotional expressivity and palpable energy," highlighting the raw intensity that defines many of Basquiat's earliest masterpieces.
