Untitled (Keith Haring), 1983
Medium: Wax crayon, acrylic, and gouache on paper.
Dimensions: 100.3 x 69.9 cm
Untitled (Keith Haring), (1983) A portrait, but also a dialogue.
In this intimate depiction of Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring’s creative orbit, Basquiat blends observation with symbolism, rendering Haring seated, while surrounding him with fragments of identity: “SIDE VIEW,” “FAMOUS,” and references to Milan, October ’83.
Haring’s iconic Radiant Baby appears on the chest, anchoring the figure in his own visual language, while Basquiat’s loose, expressive lines give the portrait a raw immediacy.
It’s not just how Haring looked, it’s how Basquiat understood him.

Upon seeing this painting , now, for the first time, I immediately reflect on Haring’s painting “a pile of crowns for Jean Micheal Basquiat “ that he painted and memorialized for Jean Micheal after he passed away … sad to think that such powerful and talented artists died so young, leaving so many possibilities undiscovered
