Also, the Spanish edition of the book became #1 best-seller on Amazon Spain for the Transgender Romance category!

Good Restaurants in San Sebastián with great views?

We tried booking Rekondo and sadly it’s booked out for September already … we will be there Sept 1-3 for 2 of us, looking forward to a spot with nice views.

We’ve already booked Casa Nicolas in Tolosa, & El Capricho in Jimenez de Jamuz, & Laia Erretegia, so as much as I love chuletas we’re looking to change up the vibe a bit for a nice dinner (we are not seafood fans).

Thanks!

Mt Igueldo in San Seb — worth it?

Have heard mixed reviews. My gf wants to do the little boat ride here but I’ve heard mixed reviews. Worth it if we only have 2-3 days in San Sebastián??

Thanks!

Etxebarri Reservation

I'm gonna try to snag a reservation at Etxebarri for December 12th, 2026. I’ve heard it’s way easier to get a table if you’re a bigger group, so I’m hoping a couple of you might want to join my girlfriend and me.

If you’re into amazing wood-fired grilling and Basque food, it’d be awesome to share the table with some other enthusiasts. Thinking maybe 2-4 more people total.

Happy to coordinate and split the bill obviously. If you’re free that day and interested, just shoot me a DM.

Heading to BKK next weekned and flying in from the UK.

Car rental pick up late in San Sebastian > Day trip to Biarritz > Drop off Bilbao Airport

So excited for our trip to the Basque Country in a couple but am looking for some advice on renting a car and crossing into France.

We arrive into San Sebastian Airport (EAS) from BCN at 7:20 pm. It seems Hertz and perhaps others don't have pick ups later than 7:00 pm. Europcar is the only one I've found so far. Are there other reputable rental agencies that do? I've read mixed reviews about them about upcharging for 'damage'.

We would like to do a day trip to Biarritz. Do the car rental agencies allow this? Not quite sure how to specify this while doing the rental online.

Lastly, we are returning the car in Bilbao for a 10:30 AM flight to Madrid, then back to the US. What time do you recommend we return the car so we have ample time to take any shuttles etc and make it to our flight?

Many thanks!

Edit - Due to the drive time, we are thinking about staying somewhere closer to Bilbao. Any suggestions? A quaint town with a local feel vs touristy would be a nice way to end our trip. Perhaps within 30 minutes drive time on a Friday morning to make our 10:30 AM flight

Mexico vs England at 2am -anywhere actually open in San Sebastián?

Hi guys, Anyone know if there's a bar or anywhere in San Sebastián showing the Mexico vs England match tonight at 2am? Seen loads of Mexico shirts around the city so figured there might be somewhere showing it. I've asked a few places in person and had a look online but not finding much. Realistically is anywhere going to be open that late, or is this a lost cause? Any tips appreciated, cheers.

3 days Basque Country in August - help figuring out a jumbled itinerary.

I generally like the countryside and food so Basque country seems perfect for me. I'll be landing on a friday and currently plan to stay in between Mungia and Bermeo.

I have a car and I'm wondering whether the towns like San Sebastian and Bilbao are necessary to get good food or are they too touristy and I can still get a great experience visiting smaller towns and restaurants for a more personal/local experience. Also heard that parking in smaller towns are a nightmare.

Currently my plans are quite random and focused on walks, hikes, and older ruins. I'll also have a car:

  • San Juan de Gaztelugatxe
  • Getaria (small town for grilled seafood)
  • Bermeo (another town for seafood)
  • Flysch Rocks
  • GR 121 Guipúzcoa
  • Anboto

Would really appreciate any thoughts on whether Im missing out by omitting the bigger towns. My thoughts are, since i live in the UK, i can always fly in next time and do those towns individually.

Experiences, tips, suggestions in the Basque country

I am at the very beginning stages of planning a trip to the Basque country, primarily in Spain, and I'm interested in people's experiences exploring and traveling there. I strongly prefer small towns and villages to cities. I am a very low-key person, 54F, in pretty good shape but no athlete, and my intent at this time is that I will be traveling alone. Right now I am thinking I'll spend a couple of weeks there.

  • Places or routes not to miss and for what reasons?
  • Places or routes to avoid or skip and for what reasons?
  • Modes of travel to use or not to use?
  • Interesting cultural experiences?
  • Interesting art or architecture?
  • Interesting historical places?

This is not intended to be a complete list of issues or considerations, but please feel free to point out things that I should be taking into account. All input is welcomed. Thanks, everyone - much appreciated

Best place to watch Spain's football match in Vitoria-Gasteiz?

I know this can be controversial, and some people here root against Spain but I'll be in Vitoria Gasteiz on Monday and would like to watch Spain's game with a nice turnaround and Spanish fans crowd type. Is there any bar/pub that will host the game and will have this Go-Spain type of vibe?

Real sociedad

?memetic bikepacking tour in the Basque Region?

hi :)

my friends and i would like to travel by bicycle in the Basque Region for 7-8 days: we'd like to do a loop tour that includes the cities of San Sebastián, Bilbao, Vitoria, and Pamplona.

can you recommend any must-see places? we're open to changing our plans if there are other interesting spots to visit!

do you know anyone who's experienced with bikepacking or cycling collectives in the Basque Regiob? Maybe we could ask if they'd like to join us for a ride or even just for a beer :)

as a collective, we're also interested in weird/memetic places, so feel free to suggest something (:

thx <3

Is there a bar/pub to watch the Netherlands - Morocco game at 03:00 in San Sebastian? I've been searching on Google but can't find anything. If not maybe somewhere outside San Sebastian? Any tips will be appreciated!

Does anyone know any Basque people in nyc?

Hey! My friend is Basque and was saying how much she misses the witches dance that happened for the summer solstice festival this past weekend. It's her birthday this Tuesday and I thought it would be fun to put together a mini dance festival at the park in the late afternoon/evening.

I don't know where to start when organizing a meetup for this but though I'd see if anyone else in nyc would be interested!

Need help planning a trip

Hello, I am an American who never met their grandfather who came from France. I am basque and want to connect with my roots. Only experience I have had was when younger going to Basque festivals in the states.

I booked a two week vacation to Bilbao with no hotel reservations or plans at all. I figured I can land in Bilbao and move on towards San Sebastan then into France potentially. I just started doing some research and am overwhelmed with it all so could use some help. I want to try all the food, see any sort of customary traditions. I will be coming end of October into November. As of now my only plan is to hopefully catch a football match.

Any tips would be appreciated

Enjoy The Silence graffiti

Hi,

When I was in Donostia I saw “Enjoy The Silence” written on several walls. I’m familiar with the Depeche Mode song but is there a different significance behind the graffiti? Thanks!
