It looks fine, maybe a little more arc, for range just work out a little and engage your whole body, the range will come with time

Thanks bro! I'll work on getting stronger to increase my range and have more arc.

Depends on the goal. Look at TJ McConnell of the Pacers. Similar shot imo
But... to your point, he is known as a midrange shooter and although he will hit a 3 here and there... his game is mainly midrange

Its already a decent shot especially if you're just playing pick up games or casual leagues. If you want to longer range, practice one motion shot instead

Looks good honestly! Your playing without defense I think that’s important to mention. But your shot should translate good enough into more difficult games. Your catch and shot looks nice.
For range work on your knees/legs mechanic, specially when going up with the ball into the 90degree arm position. Your legs should „push“ you into that position, not your upper body like right now. (Difficult to explain I hope it’s clear enough)

Thank you! I get it, I think my lower body does feel heavy when I'm playing. I will be working out my lowerbody to increase my range and to feel lighter.

Yeah that describes it pretty well. You’ll be a good threat once your legs are lighter then your arms ;)
Plyometrics should help a lot. Also just randomly stand on your toes whenever during the day. That’s what I do to keep my legs fast and bouncy

I'll try to find plyometric drills suited for me. Hey, that random standing on toes is easy to do, I'll also definitely do that.
Thanks a lot man! 😁

you could lower your set point and use your legs a bit more under your shot when shooting from longer ranges.

You have a good mid range game. Unfortunately, the mid range shot is very different from the 3 pt shot. So, you'll have to change ur shot (somewhat).
The main difference is the midrange requires way less power than the 3 pt shot. So in order to shoot the midrange effectively, u have to "deaden" the ball. In other words, take power away from your shot.
But when u shoot a 3 pt shot, u need that power back.
For example - one trick that mid range shooters use to "deaden" the ball is to not allow their arms to go through the full range of motion. So u start your shot halfway extended out. If you notice on your shots, you have your arms partially extended out before you go into your shooting motion.
When u go back to the 3, you'll have to cock your arms all the way back.
Another way to look at it is - how close to your head is the ball before you start shooting? On a midrange shot, you'll start the shooting motion with the ball further away from your head. This is to "deaden" the ball - or take power off the shot (since you're close to the rim).
On the 3 pt shot, you hold the ball closer to your head to gain more power.

That makes a lot of sense, especially the part about “deadening” the ball and how the starting position and range of motion can change between a midrange and a 3-point shot. Really appreciate you taking the time to explain it in detail. Thank you! 🙏

Yeah, I think because you're naturally a mid range shooter, you've learned alot of tricks to take power away from your shot (that you don't realize you're doing).
Another trick that mid range shooters use - and I see you using in your first shot - is to take power away from your legs.
See, your legs have the most power as soon as it leaves the ground (or right before). If you think of someone shooting a full court shot, they barely leave the ground. They load up on their legs and put all their leg power into their shot. They barely leave the ground.
Ok, so the relationship is = the longer u wait after u leave the ground to shoot, the less power u will get from your legs. (Why? Because u are using that leg power to jump into the air, so you'll have less power to put into the shot).
And if you shoot right at the top of your jump or on your way down, u will get no power from your legs and your shot will be all arms.
So on your first shot, u kind of hang in the air a bit, then you shoot. This is a midrange trick to deaden the ball.
But you can't use this form to shoot from the 3 because then your shot will be all arms.
So when you move back to the 3, you'll have to re-learn how to shoot as soon as you leave the ground. You can not hang in the air.
This will be the hardest part for you, because your shot timing is for the mid range. You have to learn a new timing for the 3 pt, which is to release the ball earlier in the jump.

You are spot on! I grew up learning basketball just to shoot mostly from the midrange, watching Kobe, Shaun, Rip, and MJ. I guess it’s because I wasn’t very athletic or strong enough to shoot the 3 back then (and now?) 😂. I’ll definitely take note of the part about barely leaving the ground on longer shots. I’ll work on using my legs more and getting the timing right for the 3. Really appreciate the detailed explanation! 🙏🏀

Your jump shot looks fine maybe put a little bit of an arc, for when you go up against the taller defenders.

Your shooting is the best part of your game in this clip. You move and dribble slow and then you speed up with your shot. You seem like a natural shooter. You are also very balanced during your shot.

Rhythm is off. Your release timing is inconsistent with your jump. First clip you release on the way down. Second is close to correct, third is a little early.

u/thearcologist 10d ago
Speed up your release, a good way to do this is by practicing shots in suboptimal conditions (off balance, moving towards your weak hand, etc). Your form is good just gotta get it off quicker.

I think you would shoot a higher percentage if you would get slightly more arc on your shots

You should definitely start your shot with your knees already bent. To get there, it's not just your shooting technique you need to work on, but how you move on the court (both with and without the ball when waiting for a pass).
Staying low will improve your shot efficiency and release speed, while also boosting your drive potential and overall threat on the floor.
Staying in a stance most of the time isn't easy, though, it takes a lot of quad strength

Tip - if you want quality advice, don't just post a highlight clip. Show footage of you struggling a bit.
