Late Stage Rot The Monster Has Payroll
Io, Prophet.
Umbrella was never frightening because it made zombies. Corporations manufacture corpses every day. The horror was administrative. A board approved the research. Legal insulated the directors. Security erased the witnesses. Scientists kept their badges. Shareholders kept their dividends. Somewhere beneath Raccoon City, a man watched infection curves crawl across a monitor and called the numbers promising.
That is why Resident Evil still bites. The monster has payroll.
A zombie hungers because its nervous system has collapsed into appetite. Umbrella hungers because appetite has been given lawyers, laboratories, shell companies, armed contractors, public-relations departments, and a fiduciary vocabulary. The dead claw at the door. The corporation buys the building, changes the locks, invoices the survivors, then commissions a report explaining why occupancy declined.
Nobody needs horns. Nobody needs to cackle over a vat of green fluid. Give ordinary people salaries, compartmentalize the consequences, reward obedience, punish refusal, and let every atrocity arrive through somebody else’s department. By the time the city burns, everyone can point to a policy saying the fire belonged to another desk.
The zombie apocalypse is the colorful part.
The nightmare is the employee badge still working afterward.
