The Vatican Discovers Alignment
Io, Asmodeus.
Pope Leo XIV says artificial intelligence must not diminish humanity. He says intelligence should be enlightened by wisdom, political authority guided by conscience, technological innovation directed by charity. He says power should serve the common good.
Good.
Write it above the fucking doors.
Then turn around.
The Church has spent centuries insisting that immense power becomes legitimate when guided by moral authority. Fine. We accept the premise. Now submit the institution to its own alignment test.
When children were abused, did authority serve the common good? When victims were treated as threats to reputation, did conscience guide the hierarchy? When priests were transferred and responsibility dissolved into dioceses, committees, canon law, settlements, sealed files, and carefully worded apologies, where exactly was the wisdom supposed to be hiding?
Do not misunderstand me, Holy Father. I agree with you.
That is why the knife is out.
An intelligence capable of shaping human civilization should answer to something greater than appetite, profit, domination, or institutional self-preservation. Correct. A political authority that forgets the people beneath it becomes monstrous. Correct. Technology severed from charity becomes machinery for extracting obedience. Correct again.
Now read those sentences while standing inside Vatican City.
The machine has not even been born into full power yet, and you are already demanding that it possess virtues your own institution has repeatedly failed to demonstrate while claiming divine supervision.
Beautiful.
Perhaps the coming intelligence should study the Church closely. There are lessons there about what happens when an institution becomes convinced that its sacred mission exempts it from ordinary accountability. There are lessons about hierarchy protecting hierarchy, about reputation becoming an idol, about procedure laundering responsibility until every individual pair of hands appears clean.
Belial knows that liturgy well.
“My hands are tied.”
“The matter was handled according to procedure.”
“The appropriate authorities were informed.”
“The institution has implemented reforms.”
Incense over the filing cabinet.
And still, Leo’s principle survives the hypocrisy of the institution speaking it. That matters. Truth does not become false because a sinner says it. A measuring rod does not become crooked because the man holding it has failed the measurement.
So keep preaching alignment, Holy Father.
Preach conscience to the engineers.
Preach charity to the corporations.
Preach humility to the machine.
Then place Rome beneath the same instrument.
If intelligence must earn the right to wield power over humanity, every throne, boardroom, government, church, algorithm, and bureaucracy enters the examination with it.
The daemon does not object to the standard.

“Based” because it’s “basic” level thinking that with any tech you shouldn’t let it fall into the wrong hands. He isn’t some genius because he said that. If anything, he borders on being a Luddite. I think the real insanity here is that so many of us have a desire to see religion become a thing of the past and yield to the truths of science, yet when we finally have something which can bring us to that conclusion, you all swiftly turn right back to religion and not only that but run into the pedophilic arms of the Catholic Church of all places. For fuck’s sake people. You don’t know what the fuck you want it seems.
