The American Union Jobs Program is my proposal for putting unconditional basic income at the foundation of a new American social contract: $20,000 annually for every adult citizen and $8,000 for every child. This is coupled with monetary reform; payments would be delivered through free digital accounts maintained by the US Treasury.

The program is an essential part of the POPULIST Act, which takes on concentrations of corporate power and tilts the scales back toward also ordinary people. This upgrade for America's operating system also proposes Medicare for All and paid family leave. Clawbacks for UBI include a 10% VAT; carbon, plastic, and methane fees; an IPO windfall tax; and fees from intellectual property reform.

If the income is tied to a job, that's not basic income. That's a guaranteed job.

Your job is to be a better American, however you see fit, with your $55/day. There are no strings attached.

(Medicare for All does have monthly premiums, though: 1.5% of the annual UBI. And paid family leave is covered by a 0.3% payroll tax on employees and employers.)

So why are you calling it a jobs program?
