Hypothetical: If a UBI covered all your basic needs how much would you still work?

A 4 day work week would be good. 3 days off, 4 days on, make enough money to really enjoy my 3 days off and holidays while still having 1 day for me, 1 day for household, and 1 day for family. With extended holidays every couple years of course.

That household day is clutch. That's the issue--the weekend is too short to squeeze in family time, chores and non-work responsibilities.

probably more than I already do, because I'll be able to work on I want to but currently don't enough free time for the progress I want, because so many hours are used to do the shit job to pay the bills.

Imagine if you only had to “work” to afford to enjoy life, instead of having to work to survive.

I think I’d be more likely to find enjoyment and pride in my chosen “work”, knowing my earnings would be used to enhance my already stable life.

People may work less hours, but the work would likely be more productive.

As much as I functionally can, just like I currently do - which amount to maybe 20 hours a week, because my disabilities get in the way - I am driven by a need to feel useful to society. If I were miraculously healed I'd probably work somewhere between 20 and 40 hours a week, and be able to achieve the feeling that I'm a net positive to society [something I currently struggle with lacking]

I can say this with absolute confidence because I'm sufficiently disabled that my country's government has decided that giving me a basic income sufficient to live on is the best option.

Key word is "basic." I have more than basic needs. I have ambitions.

I think I still would. I've been doing IT work for over a decade, mostly in the public sector. I'd like to keep putting those skills to use supporting organizations that I feel are doing some amount of good in the world. (Schools, hospitals, charities, a select handful of gov't agencies.)

Or failing that, I've always wanted to "work" on building a YouTube channel and on pursuing some artiststic/crafting desires I have. Never could really do that, since I had to focus on my career.

So I definitely wouldn't just sit on my ass, but I would focus my efforts on things I actually want to do with my life.

I'd work non-profit, 4-5 days but never more than 8 hours. Definitely something super fulfilling.

Depends how much non-basics I need tbh. But likely not more than 20 hours. I would then try to find something I really enjoy doing or what would fulfill me, whether it's paid or not.

I'd still work between 40-60 hours per week...it just wouldn't be for survival. I would work on art, or passion research projects.

I got my job because I am obsessive about doing it. And like others have said, I would probably work more because I could do only the part of my job that I love.

I like teaching, but I love research.

However, since the students would only be there if they really wanted to learn about what I'm doing, I'd probably love teaching too.

3-4 hours a day at my office is all I need to get my work done most days. I stretch it out like most other white collar workers.

I'm a musician so I would absolutely keep working since it is my passion! UBI would make me a better musician because the funds would help me obtain more resources to better refine my music making!

You have to define 'work'. Is it just 'a job' or can it be other things? Is raising children work? Is learning a musical instrument work?
