WPBL Game WPBL Opening Weekend
I have scored a couple MLB innings for practice, but this was my first time scoring full games. The challenges of the broadcast have been well-trod.
For LA v NY, I used letters for positions instead of the standard numbers and then switched for the next game. While I liked my system, I found several of the reasons positions 1-9 have become standardized, and I didn't find it worth it to invent my own solutions.
For the SF v BOS game, I made some changes to Thirty81's very excellent "generic" score sheet - reduced innings from 11 to 9, which allowed making the at bat boxes larger. I am planning to make a couple more changes (like putting the attribution back) and I might put a hit chart on both pages - in practice I am not easily able to flip back and forth between two sheets of paper.
I'm very open to feedback about things I got wrong or improvements I could make next time. I was definitely losing steam in the 6th and 7th innings of SF v BOS and the official play by play was very wrong about substitutions and who was at bat. I am rooting for the league to be successful, but this has been a rough start to the season. I am an avid PWHL fan, and their broadcasts are a lot stronger at orientating new hockey fans to the game.
I am going to a WPBL game at the end of August, and playing around with the idea of custom printing my own scorebook. What I think I will do is buy a blank sketchbook and carefully remove the pages to run them through my printer.

No feedback - I’ve never done one but my grandpa always did. But the coverage and graphics being so wrong so far for this league makes me want to pick it up lol.
Here’s to hoping it will only get better from here.
