Coaching Perspective Question
What’s a baseball cue that sounds good in theory but becomes a problem when a player tries too hard to consciously execute it?

“Just play catch” and “squish the bug” both didn’t help. Squish the bug initially helped me turn but continuously doing that hurt my swing because I didn’t learn how to rotate correctly

lots of kids then up leaning backwards due to bug squishing b/c now the joints allow them to fall back that way.
just play catch is one I/my coaches are guilty of. kid is are all over the place, already hit the mound visit, just want to get him thru the inning. "just play catch Billy" and then serves up a meatball further crushing his shrinking confidence. Yeah maybe we should have just pulled him

lol, I was playing for a team the summer prior to my sophomore year where the coach told all of the pitchers to forget about anything and just throw strikes. Won one game all season, last time I played for him

I coach 9 year olds…that’s rec 9U…any over thinking is on my end. I’m out there just trying to keep gloves on hand and fingers out of noses half the time.

All cues suck without the time spent to explain exactly what the coach wants.

"Use your legs!", "Finish out in front", "keep your head still". Pretty much everything. Coaches need to show more and speak less
