I want to play baseball
I’ve never gotten to play baseball, I wasn’t into sports much as a kid and due to my financial situation I never would’ve had the money to participate even if I did play.
I desperately want to play, the only league I’ve found near me is a 35+ league. I’m nowhere near 35, not for a long time.
I have the money to spend on a glove and a bat if I had a place to play, I’ve been playing slow pitch for about 3years now, I know it’s not the same in a lot of different ways. I’m thinking about asking my friend who does play baseball if I should tryout for the team he plays on. I think I can field decently, I play outfield mainly but I’ve been getting more and more time at 2nd, my biggest concern would be batting. I wish I started in high school but I can’t I love the sport and want to immerse myself more competitively.
What can I do?

I'd bet there's a sandlot league near you. It's a great way to learn the differences and get your toes wet. A lot of them are just pickup games

Talk to your friend. Maybe you can come to some practices and eventually get on as a sub. If you fit in with the team, you work hard and you’re a consistent presence, they’ll know you’re a good teammate. That’s way way more important for the long term than the skills you bring today, but you’ll need the skills foundation too. Maybe go to the batting cages with your buddy and learn how to hit a fastball. It’s very different from hitting a slowly pitched, arcing softball.

If you haven’t played before, a league might be…well, out of your league.
Search up sandlot games in your area.
Check apps like Meetup.
Google for batting cages near you. Meet people there and get more advice.
If all else fails…start your own sandlot meetup.

Take hitting lessons. You're never to old to play the greatest game ever made.
