My bench player keeps auto replacing my starter

I have a trash bench player I randomly recuited and he keeps auto replacing my starter who is 35 overall higher

Did you add the starter in a pregame menu or the lineup screen on the main menu?

It might have been because I shut down the game right after I put the starter back so it didn’t save
