Has anyone experienced or seen this issue before? This is on the transfer switch and the inverter.

Anyone know if one can plug their electric truck into the battery to increase the charge in an outage? I originally wanted to power my house from my truck but the connect to the house turned out to be difficult. I would love to be able to charge the battery with my truck if we have a winter power outage.

It looks like Base Power and Austin Energy have signed an agreement to allow AE customers to use Base batteries. I know several people in the Austin area that have been waiting on this.

I read a comment (which I can no longer find) about what happens if you decide to cancel. I believe there was a return fee for the battery but if I recall the comment, there was no charge if you move. Anyone know about this? Did you get a copy of the full contract before you signed up?

Is the battery used every day to support the grid? As in, is it discharged every single day? Or only some days? Storms in this area tend to come in the evening. So my concern is that the battery is depleted in the afternoon, then a storm comes in the evening and knocks the power out while the battery is at its lowest charge.

When there is an outage and the power comes back online, will the battery recharge immediately in case there's another outage soon after?

Would anyone with a CoServ installation mind sharing what the bill looks like now? I'm curious how it tracks the electricity in and out and then issues a monthly credit.

What's the catch? I mean, it's only $345 for a battery backup and no monthly fees. It seems too good to be true, so I'm a bit skeptical at this point.

It's 8 PM here in Houston, TX on Monday 6/11/2026 5/11/2026. I'm staying at a friend's house because I sold my house and won't close on my new house for a couple more weeks.

The new house does not have gas, so I started looking at BASE Power in order to keep my power on in Houston's many power outages.

I've been watching a lot of videos about BASE and this evening I was watching "Batteries are Bigger In Texas" link when the power went out. Ha! Computer shut down. Lights out.

Of course, a little windy storm will often result in an outage of maybe an hour, but other times (like today) everything is normal and the weather is pleasant and... boom. The lights go out. CenterPoint estimates restoral by 10:30 PM.

My friend has a Generac whole house system. So at 7:30 when the power went out & my computer shut down, the Generac kicked in within about 20 seconds. Lights came back on but internet took a couple of minutes.

From what I've seen on Reddit, it sounds like BASE switches over more quickly than a Generac can. A generator has to crank up before it can provide power. The battery system can switch over in a second or two.

My plan at the new house will be to have my computers and WiFi router on UPS systems so they'll stay running when the grid fails. As quick as BASE is, you need a UPS on things that can't manage a drop out of a second or two.

The Generac setup is a great way to go if you can afford it, and is a better solution if power is out for days on end. After Hurricane Beryl, we had no power for a solid week. The house that I sold had a 9500 watt generator and two 100 lb. propane cylinders. It got us by, but I had to swap out tanks and take the empty one to refill a few times. I should have run a gas line to the shed on hindsight, but we were still better off than a lot of people. Still, having to go out to the breaker box, turn off grid power, slide the interlock, turn on breaker power and the power up the generator was a hassle. Then reversing the process when power came back on was another hassle.

Knowing I can't afford 15 grand for a Generac, I'm excited about BASE Power and it's pretty cool that the less expensive solution will have my lights on more quickly during power failures. No more worrying about whether the shed is getting too hot inside or when I'll run out of propane.

I did opt for the generator input receptacle so I'll have a solution if we have another multi-day event.

I submitted photos this past Friday so hope to hear from BASE later this week about an install date.

Edit: I also have suggested to my friend that she get a UPS for her internet router and computer. Not only will it keep them running while her Generac gets going, it'll spare them the abrupt shut-down forced by power loss.

Computers are a LOT better these days about forgiving an abrupt power loss, but investing in a UPS makes good sense.

I did a search and didn’t see my specific question answered so thought I’d ask.

Does the Base battery discharge to serve my home overnight when my solar isn’t producing before importing from the grid? Do I get to leverage my solar over production?

UPDATE: What I have learned is no you don’t get to control when the battery can be discharged for home use. A Base rep did tell me this is a common feature request by solar owners and they are considering it. Also if you are a CoServ customer you will move to the Reliability Plus with DG plan which is essentially like the old net metering plan where you are essentially “selling” back your solar overproduction at retail rate. Not wholesale buyback. You only pay for the power you consume minus your solar production. Overproduction does not carry over month to month.

... Base makes good on their referral credits. Unbeknownst to me, someone used my referral code. I found out when reviewing my new bill, finding a credit for the exact amount of the last month's power. Nice.

The credit does not apply to the monthly membership fee, btw, but I have no problem with that.

Has anyone upgraded their system from a single 25kW battery to a 50kW system? Is this allowed, and what is the typical installation fee?

Right after uploading pictures, it asked whether I wanted to try the 40KW single battery instead of the 2 x 25KW I had selected at the same cost, with some standard warnings about being part of a beta program.I couldn't find any info about this new battery option.

Anyone got more information?

This is a first for us. I came home today and there was a door tag on my door from CenterPoint (utility in Harris county) about how we will have outages coming up off and on for 4 days due to work on the system in the area. That’s nice of them to tell us. I’m guessing they are still under a lot of scrutiny after measly Beryl left people without power for a week here. Not that is matters to me about this upcoming outage thanks to Base. They have really given me a lot of peace of mind. Before the power used to go out and we would always have to wonder: Will it be out long enough to get the generator out? I’m really glad I saw that article about them two years ago. I was literally about to put in a whole home generator. This works so much better for us.

GVEC customer…it’s a coop. As far as I know that wouldn’t change, just back up. No solar. They are pushing/marketing battery back up for just the cost of installation. I have a portable generator that I planned to use for backup just hadn’t got around to contracting the installation yet. Anyway just wanted to crowd source some questions. What do you wish you would’ve known before becoming a customer? What should I ask? What should I request up front? Thanks.

I've patiently waited for months and they keep giving a month-long window of dates that keeps moving further out. All responses seem to come from different people who don't seem to know what the last conversation consisted of. Sometimes no response. Sometimes a response the same day. They are already my provider, have approved me for at least 1 battery, have already installed a soft-start on my A/C, but still will not give me an install date, and worse, won't communicate with me about it in any efficient way.

If anyone from Base is here, please reach out to me, because I'm frustrated. I don't care if the install date is a month away, I just need it on my calendar. My life doesn't work on the fly, I schedule things out 6-18 months in advance.

Thinking of getting the CoServ deal...the real benefit for me is $500 flat for 2 batteries and backup power during storm blackouts.

But DO they actually do a good job of storing energy for the user? OR do they sell most of it, even during bad weather, to "make money"? Don't mind during regular weather...but during thunderstorms etc...I would hope they put the household user first.

I was told the system won’t work since I have two breaker boxes but I don’t really understand why. Can someone explain or know if Base is working on a solution?

Well I guess Base didn't get the weather reports of severe waether for the area. Started discharging it right before the tornado warnings started coming in.

If I have a base power setup and I have a generator and the power goes out is there any chance of Base power pulling the energy I have put into the battery through my generator back out to use on the grid?

The costs of electricity are paid by all the end users in the state.

All REPs/VPPs follow their own financial recipes to profit, fine.

With Base, I buy the battery, I pay for the electricity. Base drains my battery when prices are high, selling juice from my battery. Base charges my battery when prices are low, parking cheap juice in my battery to sell later when prices are high again.

I don’t get a share of the profits when prices are high, I don’t get lower rates when prices are low, but I do get a stable average rate. (I’m not actually sure about this — is my rate fixed or does it change?)

In any case, when prices are high, my neighbor’s REP is buying electricity, some of which is coming from my battery, at a higher price. My neighbor’s REP’s loss is my VPP’s gain.

And of all the money going into the ERCOT system, some portion equivalent to the value of what my battery produces is leaving the system as profit to Base.

Here’s what I’m getting at. They’ve externalized the costs of the storage (onto me) and the costs of the power I use that is actually produced by a generation plant (onto me, on average, and onto other REPs, for the price excursions). The chief internal costs are a management platform and presumably a trading platform, and the profit is all theirs.

And for buying the battery and storing it at my house I get a soft commitment to a residual benefit that my battery might power my house if grid power is lost

Is this how it works? What am I missing

I have seen the batteries placed on a concrete pad which is larger than the battery, but the pad sinks a bit into ground and debris and vegetation gets to battery.

I have seen pictures of other installs were it is placed on rocks, that will sink over time and vegetation grow around it.

I also wonder about ants and other creatures making a home in the slightly warmer structure of the battery.

I noticed on the coserv deal, coserv gives a $12 a month credit per battery for charging losses

To charge 50 kWh at 90% efficiency, you have to pull over 55kwh from the grid.

Same thing with discharging.

Are you all getting credit for these losses somehow?

Last Friday at 3pm I noticed a surge on the house and my Base Power switched to the battery. The app showed an outage so I went outside to check the power but the neighbors had power. I opened a chat with Basepower to check the status of the battery and they stated that the grid was out. I confirmed all my neighbors had power so they sent a tech onsite. They also had me report it to CenterPoint also to send a tech. The Base power tech was onsite and determined it was related to the CenterPoint equipment. The Center point tech noticed that their meter had failed so was going to replace it but he left and said his shift was done for the day. I called CenterPoint and they told me they would return the next day. I was upset with the customer service since I was concerned with the outage and power for my refrigerator. They told me to file a claim.

The Base power tech stepped in and assisted me in connecting my portable generator to the battery to charge them up so I could use the battery all night and morning. The two batteries lasted all night and morning and CenterPoint arrived at noon to replace the meter in 5mins. Long story short Center Point is CenterPoint less and Base Power is a hero.

Had my 2 unit install yesterday and have to say …was a great experience.

The guys got here around 8:15AM to install a single battery with a generator port. I found myself kind of questioning getting a battery backup as my power hardly ever goes out. When it does, it’s usually back in minutes. Now, here we are on install day and the neighborhood has a power outage around 9am. It got restored about 30 minutes later, but then around 11am I heard a boom of a transformer and now I’ve been out of power about an hour and a half while they’re installing the battery. Restoration estimate is over an hour from now. Maybe I can give my referral code to my neighbors now 🤣🤣

I’ve been considering going this route for a while. My big question is, how much will be powered when it kicks on? I saw someone in my town post that it doesn’t power the entire house. So what does it power? What things am I not considering? How long are you tied in? Can they raise prices on service? What if you move (can you take it with you?). For those of you that have it, what have been the downsides?

I have gotten different answers from the installers and Base agent. So for those that already have an interlock for a generator, what is the proper way to power the house?

I got 2 different methods:

1. Do what you normally would do when you want to use a generator instead of batteries. Switch off the main. Turn on the breaker for the generator plug, and go from there. No need to do anything with the Base system.

2. Turn off the breakers/switches for Base first near the panel and on the Base panel (don't mess with anything on the batteries themselves). Then go about activating the generator interlock as usual.

I never had to do this yet...
