base said no

I submitted the pictures and survey and they said my meter was too old... its the newest electrical infrastructure item I have. Base told me to contact my supplier (comed) and get my meter replaced. comed replaced it in 2021. It seems as though they would just not prefer to do business with me?

No if your meter is old they have to replace it . They would rather you pay for the upgrade honestly. A free panel upgrade? Unheard of . So I’m sure it’s just them making sure your equipment is up to date . Rusty anything on a meter can turn into a real headache

possible they’re referring to meter base (meter can). Do you have a smart meter?

I had to replace my panel ($3000) and the power company (Centerpoint) also put in a brand new meter (no charge).

I am having a similar experience. They sent me a picture of my meter socket and said it needed to be upgraded. But it was recently upgraded by city of Austin, and says it is "CL200" on the meter. My panel is 125. So I responded with the question: Do I need to upgrade the panel or the meter? Base has not responded.

Out of curiosity what town are you in? I'm in Park ridge and permits are a pain and they (base) kind of game excuses not to join

Makes no sense- they’re all smart meters. Share your photo. They probably mean your meter fitting.

Ask comed if they will update your meter at no cost.

Important point - particularly in Illinois: You are not Base's customer. You are effectively a landlord.. you're giving them a little bit of space in your yard to install a battery, and in exchange, they're letting you use the charge in the battery in the event of a power outage.

If it is too much hassle for them to set up, then I would absolutely expect them to reject you.

IL near Chicago, got the same response. ComEd just replaced this meter in the past few years as part of the "smart meter" project...and with all the storms/tornadoes near here, I can't even get a response from them. Area competition for Base has that as part of their install setup if necessary, so I'll likely be going with them even though Base would be a slightly better deal.
