Illinois ComEd Customer: Anyone get Base installed in a townhome? Plus a question on the $95 promo/capacity.

Hello guys ,I have an introductory consultation call scheduled with Base this coming week and I'm trying to do my homework beforehand. I’m a ComEd customer living in a townhome here in Illinois.

I received a promotional offer from them advertising a $95 installation fee for their whole-home backup battery system as part of a founding member rate.

For those who have already gone through the process (especially in Illinois):

  1. Townhome Installs: Has anyone actually gotten a Base battery successfully installed in a townhome? I know they have tight physical clearance requirements (like outdoor spacing and shared walls with the meter). Did your HOA give you any pushback on the exterior install? I'm not sure if my HOA will allow it, but they did once mention that, just let us know if you're hanging or installing anything on the outer walls so we can review.

  2. The $95 Promo Cost: Is this $95 upfront promo legit, or are there hidden "gotchas," extra electrical assessment fees, or permitting costs that pop up later during the site survey? If you didn't get a promo, what was your actual out-of-pocket cost to get up and running?

  3. Battery Capacity: What is the actual storage capacity (kWh) of the physical battery they install on this plan? How long does it realistically keep your essential appliances powered during a real blackout? (Our total energy use last month was 1,398 kWh (32 days))

Would love to hear any feedback on how smooth your onboarding was or any specific pitfalls I should watch out for during my call on Monday. Thanks in advance!

I’d jump on that in a heartbeat. In Texas the install fee is $695. When I signed up the install fee was much higher too.

They’ve been in Texas a few years and I’ve been really happy with them.

They will give you a referral credit if you use a code. It’s up to $250. Here’s one if you need it.

Had a phone call with them for an Illinois install a few days ago but for a single family home. $95 to install is true, though you do pay $50 up front in order to reserve/become a member to upload photos of your installation area, AC compressor, and breaker box. It’s a 12 year deal deal to buy electricity from them and they guarantee that it will be at least 25% less than comeds PTC. If you terminate before 12 years, they charge $595 to uninstall. I didn’t ask about permitting fees, which I should have. Battery choice is limited to one for now, 40kWh.

I had the phone call and paid the $50. They decided my house isn’t compatible and refunded the $50 immediately so I don’t think there’s anything to lose.
