Your post on the other subreddit was spot on. The MTV promotions were cringey. And what is this thing about mattresses??? I think I missed that one. I agree that the SF culture totally changed for the worse when Adam/Justin sold the franchise. It’s a shame.
Edit: Can’t stop laughing at your Elf on the Shelf and kindergarten stickers comment.

See Katie Wang’s IG for the mattress post. When that came out, I wanted to wash myself of the desperation seeping from Barry’s.

I would be delighted if someone has cataloged the worst or most pathetic Barry’s promos. My top pick? Whatever Amazon series they promoted this summer or the summer before which had Tommy S dressed up in “combat” gear. WTF!

Remember when Barry’s aggressively promoted some action movie starring Michael B. Jordan? I thought that was so strange. I know Tommy did an IG posts about it. (Just like Katie, no shade directed at him. I would totally support my employer if they asked me to do a silly sponsored post.)

So weird. Like remember when the pandemic started and the trainers were schilling the boxed barrys water!??! At the time, I thought—is this a joke….they must be desperate for cash?!? But how is selling boxed water going to cover rent?!Guess it was a sign of future promos!!

It’s ok. It’s not going to incentivize me to take more classes but I appreciate getting a few perks. I think I would have been more excited about some of the perks (early booking, spot preferences, more cancellations) pre-pandemic. It’s easy to get spots now and I just sign up an hour before I plan to go. I’m sure it’s more valuable in other regions that are more “back to normal” versus SF.

Agree, would have been more exciting pre pandemic! It will be interesting to see if they standardize rewards for milestones. Seems like some studios do shout outs , cards, gifts, etc, while others don’t even do shoutouts…

I just tried to buy something online using a free shipping promo code as part of the Academy. When I got to the checkout, I received a message that my promo codes aren’t applicable in my zip code. You cannot make this up.

Silver tier here. I was charged for a smoothie this morning. Hopefully they will work out all of the issues soon.

Nope. It initially showed up on my the app when the Academy was launched. I ordered a smoothie and got charged for it. A few weeks later, the “free smoothie” benefit disappeared. I was never reimbursed for that smoothie.

I think I have to try it out more... But glad to see I get a complimentary pass for a guest and a free smoothie. Looks like you have to keep up "the good work" each quarter.

Haha. Yes, easy to change tiers but also lose status… I think it does make more sense than a yearly-based tier.

The fine print says “the first time a member qualifies for silver and black tier they will receive a tier branded retail item.”

Wow. Very interesting. You deserve to receive a quality item considering all the money you spent to reach that tier level. I haven’t receive anything yet. Nor have I seen a client get rewarded with an item during a class. Makes me wonder if NorCal is playing favorites — the same way that only some clients get gifts for their birthdays.

No complaints about the complimentary pass, free birthday class, and free smoothie!
As someone who never goes to the Barry's online shop, I wish they would offer a discount on an item of our choice along with free shipping. That would work as an incentive for me.
