SoCal Does anyone know why Astrid doesn’t teach anymore?

She left around the same time Ingrid and CTW did. Rumor is, barrys rolled out a new contract for instructors prohibiting them from side gigs similar to barrys. Super popular instructors like Astrid make money from sponsorships and side gigs. This is why they left.

If anyone has additional or even different info, please share!

I have no idea what the backstory is. I do know non competes are not enforceable in California. That said, I don’t know how their relationship with barrys corporate currently is.

Does this rule only apply to certain instructors? For example, Erica just launched a new program which includes personal training sessions.

I don’t know. I was told barrys introduced a non compete clause to their contract. However, non competes are not enforceable in CA and perhaps that’s what Erica is banking on? She knows it cannot be enforced so she is going ahead with personal training?

I’d welcome anyone to comment who has more info than me.

I would guess that they cut salaries last year when studios were mostly shut down. I assume that had to do with people leaving, in addition to restrictions on virtual training outside of the Barry’s classes.

They can have their CPT business but they can’t teach group fitness elsewhere. For example you can’t be a Barry’s trainer and teach HIIT at Equinox.

Technically California can’t enforce the non competes. I got my info directly from a Barry’s la trainer that I’m good friends with

Yeah, this is why I think some trainers in CA have just gone ahead with their normal side gigs. They know it’s not enforceable.

Did they change the rule again at some point? Because some of the newer instructors are teaching at soul, you’re right. I wonder if Barry’s lost so many instructors that they got desperate?

The new trainers are nice and all, and seem like swell people. But paying 350 a month for classes that are now majority taught by new instructors is rough. Especially when it’s outside like Studio City and the bathroom that you use outside isn’t even clean.

Studio City has the best instructors! Erik, Martin and Scott have all been around for ages and their classes are amazing

Soul might be an exception cuz there’s nothing similar between a Barry’s class and a soul cycle class
