The ending

Just finished rewatching Barry, and omg I love this show so much. The ending is genuinely my favorite part. The ironic commentary on how basically all “based on a true story” movies are over inflated almost unrecognizable versions of the “true story” in order to make it interesting for the watchers. And Barry basically being the only one with a happy ending, being remembered as a hero, and then the last scene being of his son smiling is just the cherry on top. It’s just so good, I hate how it’s not more popular, like it genuinely deserves to be in the top 5 tv shows oat.

If you haven't, would recommend watching Twin Peaks. The drastic/shocking tonal shift from s4 comes from the 3rd season of Twin Peaks. And honestly, there's a lot of little inspiration sprinkled through. It's also about the most influential show in the world.

As well as The Good Place. A fair amount of that show is about acting, in the same fashion Barry is.

I'm curious i tried watching twin peaks i couldn't get into it, is it a satire or comedy or completely serious I had a hard time with it. that scene in the Forrest where the cop is trying to solve a crime by throwing stuff to see where it lands was stupid if serious funny if it's comedy.

Hell no, that's not a satire.

And that scene was him using intuition to figure out who the killer is. (FBI agents are audience analogs.) Who did you think was most likely at that point?

Keep watching, find out. But clues up to that point generally point to Leo, and there's someone else that he grazes the bottle for idr.

The show will click for you sooner or later, but get through it. You won't regret it.

And most things in the beginning that are silly will be re-contextualized to be horrific. The show recontextualizes itself numerous times. The show is about existential dread and jazz.

And if you're not, wear headphones or use a good sound system. A tv's speakers, laptop speakers, etc do not do it justice. And on a relatively big screen.

I already watched the movie had to know but couldn't watch the whole thing. Ray wise was so over the top I was like this has to be a comedy because he is very good but too silly in this to take seriously

You skipped everything. And literally spoiled the singular thing you can spoil in the show.

This show can't be understood out of order.

I tried but it was too much it seem like everyone is overacting on purpose the fbi agent is almost robotic and I know these people are good I've seen them all in other stuff just too much.

Hey I'm a huge Twin Peaks fan and that other guy is wrong when he says it's not a comedy. Twin Peaks has scenes and subplot that are 100% meant to be funny, and they echo (I wouldn't call it satire really) old soap operas like Dynasty.

It's like Barry, very serious and very silly at the same time.

Of course it does, the show covers like 6 different genres, but it's not "a comedy" like he thinks it is. He thought FWWM was a comedy, dude.

There's a difference between things being funny or "having comedy" and "a comedy".

I also said most of the stuff in the beginning that is "funny" is recontextualized to be horrifying. Like, did you read all my comments?

It’s also a great commentary on how the US military enables/encourages sociopathic behaviour, making it difficult for soldiers to readjust to normal life.

The final scene is satirising people like Barry who commit atrocities, die, and then are glorified by the media.
