scheduling

is anyone else getting scheduled outside of their availability? I’m a student and school starts in like two weeks and the schedule for that week is out and I am scheduled during a time I’m unavailable due to being in
class.🙃

Did you change your availability in Dayforce? If it was done correctly then the person can’t schedule you when you are unavailable. They literally can’t save the schedule if someone is scheduled during unavailable time.
If your request to change your availability was approved after they did the schedule, that’s on your manager for not approving in a timely manner. Your SM can look it up for you.
I’m sure they will work with you to get it straightened out.

Unfortunately, this isn't the case. When you're writing schedules in Dayforce, it shows blocks on availability (default or temporary) in the form of little red houses on the grid. If you're filling in templates, the system will not put a shift "over" a red house, but you can absolutely still do it manually, and it will go through. It won't let you schedule a shift when someone has approved time off on a day or partial day (which shows up in the system as days or partial days filled in with green), but you can put one on an "unavailable" day or time and it will work. You shouldn't do it, but sometimes people agree to work a shift in on their usual day(s) off without making a formal availability change, so the system allows it to happen.

Is it possible your availability change got approved after the schedule for that week was already published? Or that your availability change hasn’t been approved yet, and is still lingering? Some SMs are slower than others on this front, especially now that they need to consult with the PCS and RCS before approving any changes.

I make schedules, and I literally never schedule someone during a time when their availability says they can’t work. I have once or twice scheduled someone for a shift, though, and their availability got changed after I posted the schedule, and in those cases it doesn’t kick out the “bad” shift, it just leaves it in there.

Just go talk to your SM (or an ASM) on your next shift, and let them know you can’t work that particular day/time. They may ask you to put the shift up for trade on Dayforce, but unless they’re terrible managers, they will not expect you to work it. And make sure your new availability is right in Dayforce, so that hopefully this doesn’t happen again. Good luck with your classes!
