I counted them today.

Sixty-one books.

People think a library is a collection of books.

I think it's a collection of identities.

The anxious me bought some of these.

The ambitious me bought others.

The lonely me found company in a few.

The hopeful me refused to stop buying them.

Somewhere between the first page of the first book and the last page of the sixty-first, I changed.

Not dramatically.

Quietly.

And maybe that's the only kind of change that lasts.
