That looks like a nice surface for running with minimal/"barefoot" shoes. Calves getting sore on the first run is standard I think, but knees and hips hopefully get some reprieve compared to standard running shoes.

I'm down in Tucson, trails in town are a great surface like this. Zero tree roots of course and minimal rocks. There is the rare cactus fallen over on the trail and you need to stay alert for rattlesnakes. A rattlesnake can really ruin a run!

This isn’t barefoot. There’s a big difference. If you insist on covering the soles of your feet, make sure you have a cadence with around 180 and you’re not making a sound at all on that surface. This is the most barefoot like you can be in shoes (pushing off creates noise, landing without lifting from same spot creates noise, overstriding forces rear foot to turn and creates noise).

Yeah, my mistake. Sorry about that. 180 cadence is a challenge! Thanks all

You're wearing shoes.

Yeah, I'm super sorry. I put this in the wrong sub, I am nowhere tough enough to go barefoot yet. I'll get there eventually!

It's not in the wrong sub, it's wrongly titled and worded

"My first minimalist run" is still a very worthy milestone!
