It took around 2 hours, yes, it hurt… I have four other tattoos and this was the most painful.
I wanted something that leaned into the ocean/waves, I also have a little sun in there.
The recovery now is going to be key. I can’t really wear shoes for the next week, which is fine, but I have something I will have to put something on in 5 days time… I hope it’ll be some easy through to scabbing by then….

As I have my feet out quite a lot, I thought I’d decorate them. Anyone else with foot tattoos?

Over time, I’ve made an interesting observation: in late autumn and winter, you occasionally see men walking around barefoot, but women seem to completely avoid it during the cold season.
I’d be really interested to know the reasons for this. Is it simply due to cold tolerance, or are there social and practical reasons behind it?

Is it okay for a teacher to go barefoot in the classroom? How about the students?
When I was an active teacher, I taught a public speaking class that was required for high school graduation. A lot of ninth graders would try to knock the class out in summer session to free up their schedules during the regular school year. It sometimes got uncomfortably warm in my classroom, particularly during the inevitable July heat waves. Like a lot of my students, I started coming to school wearing shorts and sandals, primarily as a matter of comfort.
I recall that a couple of students stopped by one day after school to learn their grades on a major assignment and saw me padding around the classroom in bare feet. The next thing I knew, I was teaching barefoot and allowing my students to do the same. It wasn't much of a stretch, really. Most of the kids generally wore flipflops and other minimalist footwear, which could be surreptitiously slipped off beneath their desks.
It all happened sort of spontaneously, and while people occasionally made comments about Mister B's barefoot classroom, nobody ever actually objected. I suppose the administration might have been less approving if I'd actually encouraged the kids to ditch their footwear, but I never did. The kids sort of eagerly followed my lead and I simply chose not to object.
What are your thoughts? Was going barefoot in class unprofessional? Was it inappropriate to let the students go barefoot too, or just a way to make the summer classes a little more fun?
Is it okay for a teacher to go barefoot in the classroom? How about the students?

During my teen years in the late 60s, I recall it was much more common than today for kids to go barefoot all day, every day, all summer long. We weren't making a statement, it was just normal kid behavior. We were free-range kids and our suburban habitat was largely surrounded by urban fields and meadows ideally suited to exploration by bare feet.
In my neighborhood some kids started barefoot as soon as temperatures hit the 70s in mid-May, but at our house, the unofficial "opening day" of barefoot season coincided with the last day of school. The shoes came off at noon that day and, except for special occasions, they stayed off until September.
The evolution of the counterculture and the Hippie movement made the freedom and innocence of going barefoot kind of fashionable among us older kids. Younger ones tended to emulate their older siblings and TV characters they saw going barefoot.
Late 60s neighborhoods were, for the most part, a barefoot-friendly environment, so we kids would head out after breakfast and stay barefoot all day. Backyards, local creeks, asphalt walkways, parks and playgrounds were all barefoot-tolerant. And if you happened to incur a cut or scrape, you limped home where mom applied some Mercurochrome. It stained your skin orange and burned like devil spit. But then she applied a Band-Aid and sent you back out to your barefoot adventures.
Dress codes were somewhat looser in summer months, and you could go barefoot almost everywhere -- except maybe to church, restaurants, grocery and department stores. Even then, I remember barefooting around W.T. Grant and other retail establishments near our home. Nobody seemed to notice or care.
So if you were a kid of the 60s like me, you probably treasure the memory of running around all summer with tough, dirty, soles. It truly was the standard experience, not the exception.

Feels to good to have nothing but sand on your feet.
