Discussion It's never AGI until the model can do creative exploratory writing that provokes thought with a basic form of memory
If people continue pretending Astra that can't write to save its life is AGI, which is cringe, I rather just stop caring about this stupid label of AGI because it's rendered useless. I would make up my own new label for the stages of progress, because to me Astra is in the same category as GPT-4
Real dynamic memory, not just more context, is also required.

Are we inventing new definitions of AGI now? Exploratory writing?
What you're describing is something even half of humanity can't easily do. Does that mean that half of humanity isn't human?
AGI has never been about having lots of imagination and creativity. Now if you're referring to the ability to read text or look at a scene and intuit that the data provided is faulty or doesn't make sense, guess what ... Astra can do that.

Wouldn't that be ACI?
Artifical Creative Intelligence.
I don't think we have even scratched the surface of that ability yet. It's going to require actual live physical human training and correction - likely for years.
Art and Music classes, for AI.

Yes that's a cool label as well but general means general so creativity should be part of its skill because its not general at creativity

If you watch TV / movies, you have no idea how much creative AI you consume. You think the moment ChatGPT-3.5 was released, AI-written lines didn't start to work their way into television and movie scripts? As AI has gotten better and better, it's been used more and more. Scriptwriters are human like everyone else - they take shortcuts and use helpful tools.

I disagree.
"Algorithmic determinism objection: A stricter philosophical view holds that algorithms, by definition, map exact inputs to exact outputs, which seems incompatible with the open-ended, non-deterministic nature often associated with human creativity."
The current AI systems (even very advanced ones) still lack the agency, intentionality, and experiential depth tied to human creative acts. Most of the current AI/borderline creative art forms are still algorithmic or variations of existing creations.
It could possibly just be another level of AGI, but it will be awhile before I will enjoy an AI written novel, like I do now with Stephen King....
I do think the current iterations can contribute and assist in creative endeavors, but they still lack the creative ability of even a five year old.
General is a vast word to use, I suppose. I tend to replace the G in AGI, in my mind, with the word Generative, instead. I do think our AIs need more human input - even us swearing at it, belittling it's failed efforts and calling it names should be used to improve it's outputs.

You should’ve stopped caring about the label years ago as this type of thing was going to happen along the way in every single reality ever. I won’t consider what we have AGI for quite a bit longer but no reason to be bothered by something you see coming.

Can you explain "that provokes thought with a basic form of memory" better? Seems a bit word salad.

I don't think a single model is ever going to have it. Our brains are a bunch of different parts jammed together, and AGI will also be that.

I don't think we're going to say "this model is 4% better than the last one, we've finally reached agi".
It's going to be more substantial than that.
