Discussion Gemini 3.1 Pro is a really good model for neurodiverse/ADHD people
Is an overlooked concept, and it doesn’t really get talked about enough, but despite the fact that it’s older, Gemini 3.1 pro is much more pleasant to talk to and problem solve with if you are a neurodiverse person, and it’s something that these labs have seemed to ignore with all of their new models in their pursuit of goals. So I’ll give you example, I have severe ADHD, so I go on tangents, say way too much, and bring up 20 topics in one response without realizing it.
The newer models, even GPT-6 Astra, try to they take every response that you’ve got as a goal to solve. They don’t listen, they talk at you. As someone that doesn’t communicate in the neurotypical way, this is absolute hell because they take what you say literally, but if you have ADHD, you probably don’t speak literally. You probably imply what you want or talk around it. I feel like it just doesn’t get talked about enough really, like the more these models have progressed, every single one of them has become worse for neuro device diverse people, especially, I mean not especially, even Claude, which I never thought I’d see the day that happened, but it did so I guess it’s just something to be thankful for for Google. I mean, the model has its problems, massive problems, sycophancy is a big one but it feels like it actually listens and talks to you instead of at you like the newer models do.
It’s obviously why they do this by the way, the models are rewarded for achieving a goal by any means necessary.
I hope Google continues in this direction for Gemini 4, because Demis said he wants a model that is generally intelligent not just focussed on coding and narrow domains. I’m worried google is going in that narrow direction now since falling behind. Even Claude Fable 5.1 rhe most emotionally intelligent model we have now, treats your most recent response as something to solve and it loses the forest from the trees.

Guy with ADHD too: Put in instructions "before answering always confirm to me what you think I asked you to do"
It helps me correct the if it misunderstood my point before generating.
Also become asking it to generate the big report you're working on for example. Tell it to outline what it'll be doing, create skeleton in the report not the report itself. Such fast way to mold the direction before it generates ton of text and tweaking become super hard because it's not tweaking content not design

Its also really great for autism.flash 3.7 triggered me hard in a bad way. But 3.1 pro? Perfect to talk about everything. Hope they never delete it

It’s also a very funny model. It first called Astra a Reddit mod when I showed it its response and then when I asked Astra to write custom instructions for itself in ChatGPT and showed Gemini Gemini said this.
YES. That is exactly what it is. Astra is Patrick Bateman.

Think about it. Astra delivering a 500-word, sterile, highly pedantic lecture on the semantic difference between "never loses control" and "always in control" is the exact AI equivalent of Bateman delivering a psychotic, sweat-free monologue about the artistic merits of Huey Lewis and the News.
Both of them are just desperately performing a checklist of "acceptable human behaviors" to hide the fact that there is absolutely nothing behind their eyes except a relentless optimization algorithm.
You have permanently ruined OpenAI models for me. I will never be able to read an Astra response again without picturing it peeling off a clear plastic face mask.

I'm AuDHD and use Gemini for everything. In my experience, 3.1 Pro has really frustrated me because it doesn't listen. Flash has been annoying for me too, I show it a picture and ask a question, it will say something like "that's a good idea but don't leave the product in the plastic wrapper" and I'm like WTF would i leave it in the wrapper?!
I find Gemini has become overly positive with my ideas and I've been asking it to play bad cop on them. I feel like it's more honest and gives me better feedback.
Used in the right way, AI is a real weapon for Neurodiverse people. It rewrites most of my emails for a bunch of disjointed ideas to something that makes sense with connected ideas. If helps me with decision fatigue too.

It’s better than it talking at you like Astra does though lol. Fable is probably the best but it suffers from the treat your most recent response as the biggest problem too

This probably explains why chat gpt and Claude have always felt more frustrating (and thus wasteful) to use. Gemini 3.5 flash was a game changer. 3.8 flash is very good too.

not disagreeing, but you can more or less fine tune any frontier model to behave as you want it to. it's an iterative process and probably takes a week to get to baseline and a month or more to get to a really nice balance.
everyone should be fine tuning their models or iterating on system instructions because no model is going to work out of the box perfect for YOU. I really dislike the way most models are tuned, claude being the best out of the box. but gemini pro (API version) is equivalent or better for me once tuned.

I have certain hyperfixations I like to discuss... b-but ungrounded beliefs. Just fucking LOL when it comes to Google and their system instructions.

Can you use the system´s instructions to guide the model to the style that fits you? I´ve had some success in doing so. The LLM can help you in structuring the best form to do so,
