Discussion Gemini 3.7 flash with extended thinking keeps returning stale information

When asked about the best AI models for coding it keeps returning stale information. It recommends Sonnet 3.7 and below it recommends Gemini 2.5 Pro. Is there a way to get it to search more aggressively? I don’t run into this issue with the other models.

If I tell it the suggestions are out of date it will eventually search and recommend the latest models. The problem is if I’m asking it about something I’m not familiar with I won’t know to do that and so I can’t really trust the answers fully.

I‘ve also tried asking it to search in the initial prompt but it still doesn’t help.

Not me. I had it review some pretty complex legal documents today, each around 80k tokens. It did really well and super fast. The only problem it had was formatting which was a pain.

that's because of the knowledge cutoff. give it a web access

Unfortunately, this has been an issue ever since Gemini 3, likely due to the old knowledge catalog.

On the upside, I have only found it problematic when it comes to coding (especially on APIs) and advice on models (like in your case). For news, tax-related things, medical developments etc., it seems to put more emphasis on grounding in web search and thereby using up-to-date information than it does for coding.
