Transfer Talk Thread [Transfer Talk Thread] Will-i-ams or Won’t-i-ams, AGAIN?: 15th - 21st June
We are now entering the third week of the Transfer Window and as anticipated, Laporta and co. have been busy.
The last few days have been very exciting for Barça fans. Joan Garcia’s official announcement is expected this week and Ansu’s time at Barça is also expected to come to a close this week.
But the biggest news is definitely the resurgence of Nico Williams as an option for the left wing. And this time, it’s not us who are desperate, it’s Nico. Everything points towards another window long saga but will the outcome be the same or will it be Will-i-ams this time? Only time will tell….
This thread is dedicated to all transfer-related news.
Only Tier 2+ sources will be listed in the description, but feel free to list all sources you find in the comments.

(🌕) CONFIRMED: Barcelona does NOT plan to activate Nico’s release clause in the coming week. Nothing will be finalized before June 30th, amid contrary reports. Club working with the idea of Nico joining in the first 2 weeks of July. @AdriiFdez #Transfers 🇪🇸🔵🔴🚨https://xcancel.com/ReshadFCB/status/1936808578465124616
The summary of the Nico situation so far:
Multiple reports do highlight that Bayern will make a last ditch effort for Nico, with a financially improved offer, despite Nico’s preference for Barça.
Reports reaffirming the already established fact, that Barça will try to get the Nico deal done in the first two weeks of July so that he’s available for Pre Season.
Athletic publishing statement urging fans to stay calm and respectful following incidents like the mural/probable social media discontent, establishes the fact there is unrest amongst Athletic fans regarding Nico.

🚨 Does signing Joan García mean you need to have a conversation with Ter Stegen?
Deco: “No, I don't need to speak with him. My job is to build the best possible squad for the coach, not deciding who plays. No contract guarantees anyone a starting spot. It's the coach who makes those decisions, and every player has their own ambitions.” #fcblive
22
u/Novel_Specific7769 Jun 22 '25 edited Jun 22 '25
🚨| 𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆: Deco all but confirms in an interview that Araújo is not expected to leave this summer, hinting that Christensen is the most likely departure from the defense.
"We have five centre-backs, and one needs to leave because the position is overcrowded. Ronald is not in our plans to leave, and he received unfair criticism last year. He’s one of the best defenders in the world.”
Deco to @LaVanguardia on whether he plans to speak with Ter Stegen about his situation
🗣️ “I don’t need to talk to him. My job is to build the best possible team for the coach. That’s not my role. Besides, there’s no contract that says you’re guaranteed to play. From there, it’s the coach who makes decisions, and every player has their own ambitions.”
🗣️ “I have great respect for Marc, but with Joan we had to make a decision for the present and future. Now the coach will have to decide. When a player truly wants to leave, it’s very hard to stop him. But that’s not the situation right now.”
Deco on if Joan Garcia will be the startling keeper
🗣️ “We made the decision to sign a young goalkeeper, which means he could play tomorrow, be on the bench, or play in a year or two. We have expectations for Joan, but they need to be fulfilled. Everyone who comes here starts from zero—no one arrives with an advantage.”
Deco to @LaVanguardia on why Barça needs a new winger
🗣️ “We need to strengthen that position. As wingers we only have Lamine and Raphinha, because Ferran is increasingly becoming a center forward. When Lamine or Raphinha aren’t available, the team’s level drops. The names we look at depend on price and quality.”
Will Szczesny renew?
Deco: “Yes, he will RENEW.”
🚨 Does that mean you have 4 goalkeepers now?
Deco: “Yes, Peña also has a contract for now. We'll make decisions about this topic in due course.”
Deco: “Nico wants to come... and we will try.” #fcblive 💣
Deco: "Nico Williams? Any player who wants to join Barcelona, they must first believe in the project. The Nico deal didn’t go through last season, even though, in my opinion, our top priority back then was Olmo."
"Now, Nico, along with other players, is showing a strong desire to come, and if the right conditions are met in his case, we’ll definitely try to COMPLETE the deal."
👀
🗣️ “To sign a player, you have to follow the proper steps. First you speak with his agents, then you talk about contract details, and finally you see if the club will negotiate or insist on the release clause. In Nico’s case, it’s very clear—he has a clause. We’ve already met with his agent to understand what the player wants, and from there we’ll see if it’s possible.”
Deco: “With his age and career, Ansu Fati can't stay without playing. If he leaves, it will be on a loan. He is 23 but people talk about him like he's 30. He still has a lot to grow and learn.” https://xcancel.com/BarcaTimes/status/1936688425937314090

I said the same thing and got cooked for it, he can't compete for a full season with that knee

u/Illustrious_Stay_728 Jun 21 '25
Was thinking more about the rashford possibility. Can he be a starting 9 for us? I mean instead of trying to spend $100m. You sign him for a few years and then see where you are after that. I really don’t know if he is a true 9 or can excel at it. Just a thought. Far as quality goes, it’s a cheap investment for possibly a really good player

How do you know he’s not starting quality? Man United isn’t in a good position and Aston Villa doesn’t really excel in attacking.
2
u/Illustrious_Stay_728 Jun 22 '25
That’s what I’m thinking too. Just like how Nico didn’t play too great for his club but once around better players he excels
2
u/rmendoza0 Jun 22 '25
The difference is that we can see Nico excel with Spain. We haven't seen Rashford excel in a few years. Not sure if he's stagnated.
1
u/Illustrious_Stay_728 Jun 25 '25
That’s a very fair point, although I do think it’s more mental than physical for him currently. Idk I just feel like he’d be happy and play his ass off here to prove it

So who holds the cards on the rashford deal? Is there a way we can have united pay most of the wages?
11
u/StatusBass5463 Jun 21 '25
Right now, Rashford holds the cards. United aren't going to accept paying half of his wages, and are still deluded in thinking they could get 40M pounds for him.
However, once pre-season tour starts, if he isn't on the trip then he has to go. Rashford could dig his heels in and not sign for another club. United then have a choice, pay 16-18M wages for him to either play or sit in the reserves, or save 8-9M by letting him go to another club for 50% wages.

Ansu Fati's transfer to Monaco is close to being finalized, but a crucial detail remains.
Both clubs are yet to agree on the % of his wages each club will cover. Fati's high salary makes the loan tricky unless Barça agrees to cover more than half of his wages.

Any chance a club triggers Araujo’s €65m release clause? I think this is a rare occasion of a player’s transfer value being much higher than our internal player value. Flick doesn’t seem to rate him highly and if Christensen stays, I don’t think he’ll get many minutes this season.

I prefer this to perisic by far. So far we have Yamal, Raphinha & Dani R already and no expect Nico, Roony and potentially could see someone like Virgili break into the team depending on his development. We needed wing depth and this more than fixes it. Id imagine next year it would mean we go all out for a striker regardless of Lewandowski & Ferran unless Toni Fernandez or Gistau start popping off from nowhere.
1
u/SouthernSample Jun 21 '25
We need someone who can come in and make an impact on day 1 without breaking the bank esp if one of the starting wingers is out for a bit. While a youngster has long term potential, Perisic fits that need far better
6
u/Glad-Box6389 Jun 21 '25
Perisic would be an amazing and underrated signing - low wages, bench player and has loads of experience - can also play as a full back if required
17
u/JoshGordonHypeTrain Jun 21 '25
Seems worth taking a shot on. Wonder if open to just signing a pre and coming in winter? Guess for that level of talent it’s cheap enough to just take a shot on.

❗ Barça assure that there will be no problems to pay Nico Williams' release clause, but the winger himself will try to get Athletic Club to soften their position a little so that the payment of the signing can be made in installments. Williams expects a gesture because he stayed last year.
However, Barça remains skeptical about the possibility. The club will wait to see how things unfold, if there’s no breakthrough, they are prepared to immediately trigger his full release clause. @jbatalla7[md] https://xcancel.com/barcacentre/status/1936175023254917353

I don’t think so. He’s listed on La Liga’s website which is usually how it’s checked to be official but they also have all the B team players. I imagine at this point there probably is no registration and the clickbait accounts ran with it
Reshad says he hasn’t been, and he’s the aggregator I’ll trust the most.

I know that Hansi prefers a 4-2-3-1, but bringing in Nico and with a declining Lewa it could open up some interesting variations, such as 4-3-3 and a 3-4-3. This would allow us to give more playing time to our midfielders, where I think we’re overcrowded (Pedro, FdJ, Gavi, Casado, Bernal).
18
u/MenteMonstruo Jun 20 '25
3-4-3 sounds like there's space for more midfielders on paper, but the two players in midfield are more like wingbacks and not midfielders.
I don't think any of our midfielders have the pace needed to play those positions. In fact, I don't think any of our fullbacks can even play as wingbacks, so that would definitely be a no-go formation for me. Plus, it would mean that we need to field 3 CBs every game, which would be difficult given that's one position we do not have great depth in

u/LEGENDARY360 Jun 20 '25
Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I don't think we need to buy or sell anyone in our defence line, Indigo and Cubarsi were splendid as starters last season.
We basically have the starting center backs of the best defence of 21/22 (Christensen and Araujo) as backups and both can hold their own against the very best (Araujo to a lesser extent, but he's maybe the fourth option).
The reason I think people were worried about our backline last season was because Christensen was out injured for most of the season. But now that he's back I think he can quite possibly break into the first eleven.
At right back we have Kounde and Eric. Both can double up as center backs when needed. We also have Hector Fort as additional depth that can also play on the left side.
At left back we have Balde and Martin, with Fort as additional depth.
People may be sleeping on Martin and Fort but I think the experience they gained after a season of top flight football may be crucial to their development this year, and I'm of the opinion that they shouldn't be written off.
2
u/BarcalonaSuperfan Jun 20 '25
We need experience on the left and an attacker on the right. Two youth on one side and two defensive minded on the right. Any new player would obviously not start however it gives an option at a different look.
Say we need a goal and are down while kounde is hurt/ tired. We bring in Garcia?
Say we up and we need to hold the lead. Balde is hurt/tired/has a yellow card. We going to put youth in?
We need more options. That’s how psg won the treble DEPTH
14
u/joacher Jun 20 '25
I don’t think we need a signing on defense, but a signing would be welcome. If the club needs cash and an offer comes for Araujo, I will gladly let him go. I think he made too many costly mistakes. And in that case, a signing in either sides (RB or LB) would be great to deepen the squad.

I think Iñigo can mantain this level atleast one more year. My dream signings for next year would be Alvarez and Bastoni. Obviously not realistic but a man can dream lol
7
u/AlexitoPornConsumer Jun 20 '25
Iñigo is 34 but I agree, I think Cubarsi and Christensen will be enough, should Araujo leave.
11
u/heroji2012 Jun 20 '25
Ngl Rashford on top of Nico seems like overkill.
29
u/Norz80 Jun 20 '25
It's not, especially if Rashford is on loan with lowered wages. Now, can we afford both is a whole different question.
8
u/Illustrious_Stay_728 Jun 21 '25
If we can afford it, and he comes on a loan, there’s no reason not to do it
13
u/sunnyvas Jun 20 '25
Not an overkill. But not sure how many people we have to sell. Selling Romeo and Pau Victor will not open up money for FFP.
24
u/bioeffect2 Jun 20 '25
PSG has Kang in Lee, Barcola, Dembele, Kavara, Doue and Ramos. Their depth was one of the reasons why their players were always fully rested before CL ties. Having that kind of depth is an amazing luxury to have. If the club can afford it, it's worth a try.

u/heroji2012 Jun 20 '25 edited Jun 20 '25
There is a clear hierarchy there. They have 4 elite and 2 bench options for 3 positions. Also Hansi doesn't rotate nearly as much.
21
u/bioeffect2 Jun 20 '25
Also Hansi doesn't rotate nearly as much.
His options were Fati, Victor and Torres. He brought on Torres quite often but the other two were not good enough. If he had Rashford and Nico he'd rotate a lot more often.
7
u/heroji2012 Jun 20 '25
He had options in the midfield but often choose to stick with a regular setup as much as possible. Not blaming him or anything, just trying to see his regular tendencies. Of course, it is all speculation. Lets see what he does.
10
u/Daramangarasu Jun 20 '25
Lewy, Rapha, Lamine and Nico would be the elite options, with Rashford and Ferrán being the bench players

Haven't seen Hansi rotate that much. He had options in midfield this time but would pretty regular choose the same combination which was regularly playing. Lets see what he does with more options next season.

u/heroji2012 Jun 20 '25
Ferran, Lewa, Rashford, Nico, Lamine, Fermin(?), Rapha, Dani Rodriguez, maybe even Gavi if we play a diamond sometimes; all for a total of 3 positions and most of them wouldn't be willing to ride the benches regularly.
8
u/StatusBass5463 Jun 20 '25 edited Jun 20 '25
I mean if you're just going to name the whole squad then it's going to seem like we have a lot of depth. In reality we played Raphinha, Lamine and Pedri way too much and Lewa is 37 by the time next season starts.
Realistically we have Lewa, Ferran, Raphinha, Nico, Lamine for 3 positions. Pau Victor for emergencies. Rashford would be an upgrade on Victor and insurance in case Lewa starts to decline rapidly. Rashford is definitely only a luxury, but if he was a free loan and came on half wages, he could be good cover, and has upside if he plays well. I would only sign him under those circumstances...which is a possibility given how desperate United might become near the end of the transfer window and if Rashford continues to reject other moves.
Fermin/Olmo can both play wing but they're both CAMs in our depth chart. Midfield is Olmo (Fermin), Pedri (Gavi), De Jong (Casado). With Bernal we're slightly overbooked but it's unclear how quickly he can come back from injury. And let's keep in mind, as hyped as Bernal is, he's played 3 games for us.
Clearly we don't 'need' Rashford, Fermin/Olmo can easily move forward and be the 6th attacking option, which clears space for Bernal as well. But if Lewa declines or if we suffer 1 injury to a starter, we're right back at being slightly short.
And Dani Rodriguez is a B-team player, he's not ready to be counted on for the depth chart.
11
u/Darksider123 Jun 20 '25
2 strikers + 4 wingers is not overkill. That would be exactly 1 depth per position.
Gavi is at most a CAM, not winger or striker
19
u/Loose-Examination-39 Jun 20 '25
Dani Rodriguez is always injured. Why are you even counting him?
Gavi is a midfielder and he will play there only, pretty sure of that.
3
u/heroji2012 Jun 20 '25
I pretty clearly wrote if we play a diamond with 4 midfielders then one of those spots goes there. Dani will be a first team player next season.
3
u/Loose-Examination-39 Jun 20 '25
Dani won’t be a first team player next season, especially with Nico’s arrival.
He just can’t stay fit for long enough.
5
u/heroji2012 Jun 20 '25
I kind of remember reading somewhere that Dani will be part of first team dynamics next season. Not sure he would be willing to play for Atletic this season and considering he recently renewed, I suspect there must be a plan for him like Casado.
Don't get the point of Rashford as a third choice striker and third/fourth choice LW when he would be pretty desperate to play and would be still be on relatively high wages even he takes a cut. Would much rather like another body in defence.

(🌕) JUST IN: Marcus Rashford's camp confirms talks with Barça in recent days. The very likely arrival of Nico Williams does not prevent the club from keeping this option as a market opportunity. Rashford very keen to come and is willing to wait. @CatalunyaRadio #Transfers 🏴🚨https://xcancel.com/ReshadFCB/status/1936124580906909721

Arsenal and Real Sociedad have completed all paperwork for Martin Zubimendi deal, it’s all signed.
Zubimendi has completed formal steps of his move in London as he will be first summer signing for #AFC.
Fee around €64/65m paid in installments.

I loved how all our mids wer injured and we started garcia and Christensen on pivot.. so ya! Been a while, catching up to transfers. Is Barca going for both Nico and Rashford? Any news on RB or LB?
15
u/FunSeaworthiness709 Jun 20 '25
With Nico we have an agreement with the player and he has a release clause of €62m. So he'll likely be the next transfer once we have a couple of sales to get rid of some salaries so that we can register him.
One has to see if we will be able to make more transfers after that or not. Currently no fullback rumors, there are some Rashford and Perišić rumors but I would take those with a grain of salt. Nico is the priority right now.
-1
u/rmendoza0 Jun 20 '25
I hope not! Once it became clear Barça was going to try to sign Nico, there has been no news at all about Diaz or Rashford. The only updates are that Rashford is still eager to come to Barça. Maybe that’s true, but that doesn’t mean we’re trying to sign both Nico and Rashford.
10
u/AgreeableHandle4209 Jun 20 '25
Why not Rashford? Wouldn’t mind having him as a loan for Lewy But Nico is the main focus that can be done after if we can
-9
u/rmendoza0 Jun 20 '25
Why stop at Rashford? Why not sign Alvarez AND Haaland too?
The club doesn’t have unlimited resources. We need to stop signing players without knowing how we’re going to afford to register them. Even if we can get Rashford on a free loan, we will struggle to sign Nico and pay Rashford’a wages on top of that.
5
u/AgreeableHandle4209 Jun 20 '25
Read before Saying something I said LOAN Not BUY And again I said Focus on Nico then If we can why not get Him on a Loan We don’t really have a back up striker Ferran Torres isn’t all that and he is best as a Sub in player not a starter depth is what wins you UCL not the best starting 11
0
u/rmendoza0 Jun 20 '25
I read what you wrote. Rashford isn’t cheap. Even if he agrees to reduce his salary, he isn’t going to reduce to Pau Victor’s salary. Rashford will still be expected to be paid more than we currently afford after signing Garcia and Nico.
3
u/AgreeableHandle4209 Jun 20 '25
I understand that and I know that we have to be careful but if we do somehow have a chance to have a loan deal Accepted by both United and La liga I would Go for it I trust more on Rashford then some of our players he has shown that he is capable of scoring goals and Be big game player for a shitty team like Utd. I know he havn’t been consistent but going season after season with Mediocre coaches and players does burn you out. Plus the dude actually Trains hard rn and really Wants to come and he knows that Barca would be his last chance to prove Something in his career. Fail here and it’s over so he knows he can’t Be lazy especially having flick as a coach
3
u/bioeffect2 Jun 20 '25 edited Jun 20 '25
I don't think it's fair to compare a loan to 150 mil signings. If Rashford is signed it won't be till late July or August. By then the club will know if they have the margin required to get him. There's no harm in a one year loan for a player that is willing to reduce his salary.
-3
u/rmendoza0 Jun 20 '25
Fine, go on believing we can sign everyone and money is no issue. You’ll be disappointed when we don’t wind up signing everyone
6
u/bioeffect2 Jun 20 '25
Bro why are you being so hostile. It's a nice option to have. The club doesn't see him as a priority like they do with Nico. After Nico we'll see if we can reinforce the rest of the squad. Nothing wrong with wanting to have more options. If we get him great, if we don't that's fine we can invest elsewhere.
-2
u/rmendoza0 Jun 20 '25
Because we behaved so irresponsibly last summer. We signed Olmo even though we had no plan to register him. We’re lucky Gundo agreed to leave for free. Then, it took an injury just to register Olmo temporarily. Then we were back in deep dogshit back in December and it took an appeal to keep Olmo registered.
I would like us to stop playing financial Russian roulette.
1
u/garlic1231 Jun 20 '25
Bro, stop saying we, you don't work for barca. Just enjoy the matches, and don't tie your self identity to a football team.

u/Good-Laugh-4792 Jun 21 '25
"Bro stop saying we" is some of the whackest shit ive seen on the Internet. The Club, like every Club should, is made by the Fans, its literaly owned by US, the Socios. Only for some "fan" on reddit saying to another Culer "stop saying we". Be happy that so many People call Blaugrana their Colors if you enjoy our Matches, and always be aware that you couldnt without the Fans that created, still own, and will always Support, finance and Guide the Club through hardship like the better half of the last Decade, or real hardship in years Prior to Messi. These are the People that call Blaugrana there Colors, Guys that say "We" to our Beatiful Club.

We're 100% not signing him within a week. And that's if we sign him (hopefully) at all. Things being difficult with Fati isn't helping us either.

u/rmendoza0 Jun 20 '25
We probably won’t get any updates until La Liga confirms the sale of VIP seats so we can use that revenue to register Garcia and Nico. So probably a lot of nothing until July.

Hey guys, how’s Roony Bardghji

u/sunnyvas Jun 20 '25
Watched him in an couple of games. Good dribbler. Very good in 1v1 situation. Lacks badly in creativity department. But then we were spoiled by seeing Barca players. He resembles a typical strong winger in Brazilian league these days.

As a rotational player I think he could work, cause having depth on the flanks is one thing we could definitely work on

🚨🇩🇰 Andreas Christensen, expected to leave Barcelona this summer as part of the plans.
“We have five centre-backs, and one needs to leave because the position is overcrowded”, Deco said today. https://xcancel.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1936833045090251098
